I am fine tuning my vertical reverse flow. I have a 1" ball valve in the firebox door but I think I'm not getting enough flow. Was pondering putting another vent on the bottom of the firebox similar to the top vent of a Weber kettle. Does anyone have any thoughts on this subject... The firebox is 10hx16wx16d. The cc is 30hx16wx16d. The chimney is 1"x8" and comes up the back wall. I have (8) 3/4" holes in the bottom of the cc for the chimney entrance. The smoke raceways are 1" x16" slots at the top of the cc. I'm having issues getting up to smoking temps. Any input would be very appreciated. Thanks

That's similar to what I'm planning (slide, not twist). I believe the calculator tells you how much air intake you need to provide into the FB, based on its size --and then there is a split ratio of how much of that area you want above and below the grate in the FB. If you use your head there's nothing that says you can't run a bigger air intake vent and just know that little moves will make big changes. Or just add more smaller vents/valves.

This is what i did with mine. I used the bbq calculator. My fire box is 30x30x25 and i made mine a little bigger than the calculator said to. Its 14 inches long and 5.5 inches tall. I put in a grate inside that is just above it. And instead of on front i put mine on the side. Ive had better luck that way
