4th rack is tacked together and installed in the slides. All fit fine door closes without interference ect….. Fully welded the slides in and took the grinder to what I could get to in order to clean them up after welding. Need to go around and get in the tight areas with the die grinder at some point tho. Now to get the expanded metal cut and racks finished. Gonna take a break for 2 days to get plow removed off of my side by side to go on a ride Saturday. Should be back on smoker on Sunday.

Looing good! I like how you improvised and came up with a way to break those long cooking racks in half - I like it! I'll bet that took some thought and planning...nice going!

It's really coming along!

Thanks and it sure is coming along. This whole project is way over my original thought on oh yeah I will just build one. Not that I thought it would be a breeze but more than anticipated. I can’t complain it keeps me busy and I enjoy working on it. Sometimes it feels like I don’t get anything done and was working on it all evening. 🤣 The center supports took more test fit take out adjust and go again than anything. The center ones took probably 3 times longer to build and get square and even in all directions. The tanks is out of round in a few locations and I think it’s was due to the tank straps actually squeezing the tank to the truck and distorting it. That created some headaches. All of the slides were the c channel that I got off that steel pallet. I had cut in half to make angle. I know it was c channel why did I split it I had the slides right there. They were 3” tall so there would have been lots of slop in the slides and grates. They would have tilted a bit when fully out which isn’t a bad thing but I could see room for errors and lost food. That’s just my luck on things. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I know what you mean LOL! I often experience that same thing - spending hours in the shop and not really feeling like I got much accomplished! But I tell myself that's how these builds go - some steps are just real time consuming and don't really show the progress you've made.

Hang in there and keep at it - it's really coming together!

Thanks guys. I can’t wait for the first test fire and then the cooks that’s to follow. The neighbors will probably want me to cook for them all now. 🤣

My side by side ride got canceled. The heavy rains we got last week coupled with the heavy rain last night. Has the rivers flooded again and we have one good sized one to cross in out ride. That’s not gonna happen. I guess back onto the smoker tonight and tomorrow unless something else comes up.

Yea... I always ask the neighbors if they have anything they want to put on... I hate seeing/firing the Tractor up just for a couple slabs... or something small since there is only two of us...

Actually that’s a great idea I might have to do that

1 of 4 cooking racks done.

looks good! I find that, over time, the expanded metal of a cooking rack can sag in the middle. Something to consider is adding a brace in the center of each rack.

I did this on my current build - just a short length of light gauge angle. Really makes the grate more solid.

Just food for thought…

Thanks I did add the center support to each rack .

All 4 are completed I did get one with a little wave in the expanded metal did realize it to it was to late. The other 3 came out pretty flat. I also got one expanded metal piece going the other direction. 🤦‍♂️epic fail on those 2 lol but it will still work fine so I will live with it. lol

Looking good! Man that looks like about an acre of cooking space! You'll be able to feed an army in that pit!

Thanks I sure will be able to. I can put stuff on for neighbors if they want when I cook for myself. I would actually like to do a road side / bbq stand kinda thing. Idk if I would get that far into it but it would be fun.
