A smoekout with a bunch or fishermen and women

A long over due post. I had it done once and an error caused me to lose it when posting.

Last month after a challenge was issued, a party was formed. I arrived around 7am and got set up. A few minutes later the rain started and I was forced to move the smoker onto the back porch.





Soon the rain ended, more people showed, we moved back out front and the fun really got started.



Once set up some ventured to the beach to see if the rain was done.


It wasn't!


We got wet a few more times during the day but the tents kept the smokers and us dry. Soon a liquid breakfast was served. REPEATEDLY!


Soon lunch was served including a fried turkey which was excellent and a shrimp boil. I added in a scotch egg fattie.

We tended to our smokers throughout the day cooking butts and ribs.






Of course there was other smoking going on. Many cigars added to the good smells of smoke.




Of course there was beer. Many empty cases at the end of the day and many filled trash cans.

As stated earlier a challenge had been made as to who had the better butt (thats a pork butt you sickos)
I cooked what I think was THE best pulled pork I have ever made. It was so tender I hardly needed to pull it as it fell apart when I unfoiled it. Added in some finishing sauce and put Jeffs bbq sauce and a mustard sauce on the side.


The judges ate and made their awards. I got an award for best sauce (the mustard sauce) but my butt was not good enough to secure a win for me. Dave got it and I had to admit his butt was better. I do think mine was the better meat since I had used a home made sauce, rub, baste while my opponent used store bought. I can't complain though I made my best and I feel the judging was impartial and fair. With a different set of judges the result may have been different. My ribs were good but not my best. They never got any pull back even though I used the 3-2-1 method. They were tender and tasty but not fall off the bone.


Here I congratulate the winner.


The dinner was wonderful. As a consolation prize I did note that my food disappeared first

The fun continued long into the night.

Around midnight or so the night came to an end and everyone made their way home. What a party!

Vlap, looks like a good time was had by all. Sorry to hear you didn't get top place. You know I'll bet those judges had way to many Jeg bombs and their taste buds were not functioning right, yeah that's the ticket. the judges were drunk and not thinking clearly. what was your mustard sauce recipe?

SoFlaquers mustard sauce from this site mostly. I do tend to adjust the recipes as I go. It was my guide though.

As for the judging I am happy with them. Next time I may ask how we are to present our pp. I sent mine naked with sauce on the side and he sent his dressed. That could have made a difference. I am not sure. This was for fun though and both of our entries were incredibly good. I think everyone in attendance won at this event!

Just a typical rainy day in florida. Unfortunately the people pictured are all from a fishing site I goto often. The lady hosting this party wanted to keep the attendance down around 20 people. At most I think we had close to fourty. There wasn't room for me to invite people from smf. In fact alot of good people from the forum this was set up in were left out due to the lack of room.
Another will be set up soon I hope that will have a party site where we can invite more people.

We actually had an ipod full of island music, reggea and jazz going all day. The tunes were great!
