A-Maze-N pellet tube Vertical use?

Most of the folks who use the 12" tube lay it down after letting it burn for ~10 minutes to get a good set of embers. Will the Tube function properly if stood on end? / Hanging? Will it still burn all the pellets?

Should I light the bottom or the top?

I don't think vertical will work.   They will suffocate when they burn.

I have done it on the diagonal and it worked but vertical didn't work because the ash chocked it out. If you go bottom top it will burn quick like a charcoal chimney.

I was thinking of building a "mailbox mod" type of unit for cold smoking using an old S.S. Thermos with a dryer hose stuffed on top. Back to the drawing board I guess.

I don't have the A Maze N tray but I do have an old vegetable steamer I might try, has legs and everything too.
