A Charcoal Chimney that lasts. Hopefully.

I only ever use 12-15 coals at one time. NEVER filled it. Maybe that's why??
Maybe, I will admit I'm pretty rough on mine. It's left ouside, typically on the shelf under my offset, but does get left out from time to time and we're in a high humidity area. Aways seems to be the bottom that rusts out for us. 🤷‍♂️

That's a beast of a design rolling around in your head, Shaun.
I use the Weber chimneys. Mine burn out at the bottom 1/3, too. It is definitely a heat related condition as @chopsaw and @voyager 663rd pointed out. Aluminized steel cannot withstand the heat of a load of briquettes. I'm even harder on them as I only use lump.
If I had access to metal working, I would make one from SS. My vortex shows no sign of heat stress.

Hopefully I can get that idea out of my head and onto some metal. Gotta take a look at the welder tomorrow, was going to try tacking it up today, but since moving the wire keeps jamming up in the gun of the welder.

You have gas or gas less ? Tip (gun side) is always the first thought, but the wire feed teeth will gum up if using coated wire in gas less.

Just a cheapo flux welder from Northern Tool. I pulled the tip off and it seemed fine. Pulled the wire all the way out and re-installed, same result. Even pulled the wire out again and clipped it to get a new run of it, same result. It's backing up/coiling up in the gun...gonna take it all apart again tomorrow. If it still doesn't work, I guess I have a good reason to but the Miller I've been wanting.

So now you need a Miller welder and a beer fridge... some helpful enabling around here! :emoji_blush:
Looking forward to your build!
