Capt Dan

Congrats, here's my first. I'm new to smoking...Q that is, and like yourself I have been lurking and learning. I recently bought a Big Green Egg and have only cooked on it about ten times, but so far, thanks to good people like you, my family thinks I am a genius.

yup Dan congrats and heck your already out there helping others-keep up the good posts.

It was not long ago that I stumbled onto this site while surfing for BBQ recipes and info. Lurked for about a week, learning tons, and enjoying all the friendly threads about everything bbq. I wanted to see the Q-views, so I registered. It was over, I fell in love with this site, and have spent many, many hrs, reading, posting, laughing and drooling here. I have made some great friends, and improved my abilities to make good food by 10 times. I know the learning is just beginning. Its funny that when I joined here jut a week or two before thanksgiving, I had a charbroil silver, stock from the factory, and knowledge of how to burn food, and suffer through over smoked, dried ribs, and black pork butts. Not only has this site helped save my food, all the fine folks who make this place great, have helped me turn that POS silver into a pretty decent smoker, and the menu items I have cooked in it continues to be endless.

So I say to all of you folks who have had a hand in helping me learn the art of Q................THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I won't go through the list of members who have contributed, it would be a page long, and I fear I might forget a name or two. Those who are responsible know who they are.

On the eve of my 500th post,I sit here with great antiipation of using my Lang 60 tomorrow with my first smoke on it! How much better could an old fat guy have it?

Some day, in the future, I'll look back at these days and laugh. I'll have cooked hundreds of lbs of meats by then, and the stick burner will be second nature to me, and I will consider my self"well seasoned" in the art of Q, and hopefully I will be extending myself, and my knowledge to others, just like you folks have done to me.

I raise my glass to you all, thanks!

Capt Dan.

10 lbs of leg quarters, 2 fatties, and a batch of dutch's wicked beans.
The fatties and beans are going into the warmer/smoker box at 225, and the chicken is going onto the main chamber at 300-325.

I'll do my best to get some pics!

A great post, Dan! And what's better is your enthusiasm for the art...it's downright contagious! Here's to many great times and smokes with the Lang!
POINTS!
