Hi everyone! My name is Jace and I live in Northern Indiana. I am trying to learn more about grilling and smoking meats. I have very little experience other than I love to eat it all! I am using a 22.5 inch Weber grill that is at least 15 years old. It has been great, but I'm looking forward to trying my hand at smoking meats, too. I love charcoal, and I would love to hear any recommendations on a good starter smoker, if you have any. I look forward to hearing any input you might be able to offer. Thanks!

Hello Jace and

As for a smoker, if you can afford one the WSM is a great unit. Lots of us here started on a charcoal Brinkman referred to as ECB which is about $50 last time I looked. Lots of mods listed here that will improve the smoker a lot

Thanks for the welcome and input, everyone! My wife just bought me the entry level Brinkman for Father's Day! I'm pumped to get started! Now, what modifications do you recommend? Did I read someplace that it's a good idea to drill holes in the charcoal pan? Makes sense to me for air flow, I guess. Is that a good idea? Anything else? Also, any special tips in curing it for the first time? Thanks, all!

Just use the search bar at the top and search something like "ECB mods" or "brinkmann mods". you should get a lot of results.
