1st post AMNPS mes40 question

I have a mes 40 I think Gen 2 have a slanted drip tray and vent top left of smoker. I just ordered a AMNPS 5x8 I see alot of people putting it above the water pan hole with no pan. Is that's still the best place? Or have y'all found anything better?

I put my AMNPS on the rods to the left of the chip box. Chip box and chip loader both pulled out about 2 inches and top vent wide open.
