Is there a common source for lump charcoal (chinamart ,Lowes, Home Depot, etc)? I can only recall seeing briquettes in these places.

I think most Lowes and Home Depots carry lump Walmart too

Lump is about the only thing Wama doesn't carry as far as grilling is concerned. Farm and fleet has charbroil brand lump by the 15lb box for $11, and menards has RO 8.8lb bags for $4.99

Each store is different. Might be a geographical thing. Even the local grocery stores around here carry lump.

Try other hardware stores (Ace, etc.)

If your local wallmart does not carry it , talk to a manager in that department. They can and will order it ( RO 100% hardwood lump made in the usa ) If walmart is what you were refering to as chinamart it is nice to get to the cashier with an over flowing cart full of made in the US stuff
