I also have the firebrick upgrade on the firebox. my firebox is insulated with firebrick and it will hold heat for a long time. I put 2 sticks of wood on the fire and left for an hour and a half to come back and had retained 250-275 degrees heat. that was worth the few extra bucks
it's easy to light up and clean the FB because of the sliding ash pan. the draft is good but to make it even from end to end I think I will need to add a water pan for a heat shield at the bend. at moment I put big meats such as pork butts on the hot side, ribs in the middle, and poultry on the...
The smoker is a beast and cooks really well. I don't know which smoker you are going for but the one I have is reverse flow but runs hotter at the bend away from the FB than at the FB end. I am just learning about this smoker I have used it 4-5 times.
