I purchased the the Pro Series 2 combo unit with 1262 Cook space. This thing is a damn champ! Lots of smoke out of the pellet side. When using the gas side as a cold smoker, the smoke migrates well to the gas side thru the interconnected tube. I've closed off the vents in the back of the pellet...
Unfortunately that's what I'm thinking as well, just trying to avoid it if I can since I bought this unit for this cool feature. The ice worked well, kept the ambient temp way cooler. It was my dumb mistake to not put the cheese on a tray and just have it sitting on tin foil on top of the ice. I...
Using the smoker as my smoke source. The pit boss series 2 combo unit has a slide gate between the propane and pellet side that allows you to use the propane side as a cold smoker. It stays about 100 degrees cooler than the pellet side when pellet is at smoke temp of 180. I placed a meat probe...
Okay so I have been trying out smoking cheese. Have done 3 rounds so far.
Using the pitboss pro series 2 combo unit.
Round 1 - I was smoking brisket at the same time and the propane chamber where the cheese was just got too hot because I had the pellet side too hot. Cheese melted a little bit...
Awesome, thankyou for this! One question I would have, I assume you take out the sliding diffuser and put this in?
I ended up going with the Pro Series Combo unit with propane, and the side burner. So far so good, here's the first brisket I made. 12 hours and used all the bells and whistles on...
Alright here it is!
Look at the color of that smoke ring??
This was a 12 hour cook. First 4 at 180, then 2 at 200 then once the inner temp got 140 I increased to 230 and finish it off at 250 the hot internal temp of 195.
Last 5 hours I spritzed it with some coca cola. Seasoning is called...
Alright, after much research and many opinions and thoughts, I purchased the pitboss pro series 2 combo pellet/gas grill from lowes.
I have broken it in with a tri tip cooked last night, turned out great and the meat probe was pretty close to the wireless meater+ problem that I have as well...
Hi Bob,
Can you share your model number? I know PB has the pro series and pro series 2. I'm interested in this unit and just curious as to which model number you have.
Yeah I think I've learned that traeger has gotten complacent. They owned the market for so long and now competition is doing better and they aren't sure what to do. They are just living on their name I think. All the new ones I've looked at don't seem to built super sturdy. When you handle these...
I really like the idea of the 5 year warranty, especially because I'll use it quite a bit so parts are sure to wear out. I also like their dual pellet and gas combo units that have the damper so you can use the gas side as a cold smoker. Seems like best bang for buck I think.
At just about a year of owning, can you tell me what kind of issues you've had? Does this have a programmable meat probe that interacts with the grill PID controller? Does it maintain well at high and low Temps? How does the wifi feature work? Im in the market and this is what I'm most...
Right now I'm pretty interested in this unit. I like the combo idea for middle of the week as I love to grill as much as I can. I also like the damper to use the gas chamber as a cold smoke chamber while running the pellet side smoking a brisket over pellets and cold smoking a provolone cheese...
Wifi is definitely something I want. I like long cooks. Brisket is my favorite and 2 of 3 times I've made it my trager has errored on me!! I want to be able to d things around the house and maybe even get a workout in while cooking!! Thanks for the info!
I'm looking at a long list of pellet grills and would like anyone's feedback on them.
Oklahoma Joe
Pitboss (sportsman series)
Louisiana grills (black label series or SL series)
Masterbuilt gravity feed charcoal
Green mountain grills (not sure which one)
If anyone has other options for me to...
Good to know, I've heard a lot of mixed results with traeger. Lots of ppl love them lots don't care for them at all. I'm in the don't care for them group now. My friends dad had a traeger with a stack before and it seemed to maintain way better than mine does.
