So my buddy and I have been toying with drum smoker on a trailer. We have a trailer and the drum. The goal is to be able buy a big and smoke it. ......Much discussion on build style, etc. I currently have 2 UDS smokers with weber lids. I also have clean barrels and some components to build...
So I got er done a while back. Ive done simple stuff in it....A chicken, ribs and a reverse sear beef tenderloin. A long smoke on a pork butt is up next!
The lid is rom a green weber, the rim (about 3 inches worth) of the bowl was cut off and set into the barrel. I use bolts to secure the...
I just picked up a used uds to go with my new build. 16 pork butts anyone?????
So I dont know what he used for paint..... but its GONE and we have a really nice smoker here with a "fine rust patina effect" to it. .... Should I wire wheel it, or have it blasted to paint it up all pretty like?
Thats interesting. I thought most guys were loving lump in these units. I was able clean out my local big box store this winter, at 3 bucks a bag for lump...so I have ALOT of lump. Alot. Like 110 gallons... so yeah... lump it is!
So I just about have my smoker done. I had ordered a charcoal basket- but when it came it was 12x12x8. i did a mod to get a full 12x12x12 basket in addition to adding the 3 inch legs.
So with a square basket I can JUST get in.... a 17.6 lb bag of lump coal. . Im running a weber lid and and a...
Im thinking about the bottom half of a weber kettle????? I used the the rim for my weber lid retro fit. I would think a guy could run a bunch of holes, with the bit, in whats left of the kettle???? Not sure about the shape for even burn temps though???
its 25 below with windchill. Gonna wait a bit to fire it up! I will grill with it first, likely. One bag was broken open...didnt have the heart to ask for more off...but it looks fine
Mine sure seems to fit well. It actually snaps in place! Not sure if it will leak... but thats an easy RTV fix. I just dot want it to rust out. Kinda tickled I found a Greenie!
Regarding lid leaks. There needs to be exhaust right? Aren't leaks near the lid just another exhaust exist?
So I picked up a pretty nice green weber kettle for my lid an rim. Ive added the top of the kettle to the top of my barrel by shimming it slightly with washers and "tuning the lid" to its new home. I feel like the lip of the weber will now have serious rust issues from the enamel cracking...
So my neighbor and I have been doing propane cabinet, electric, and UDs smoking for years. Last fall we stumbled on a 275 tank, on a trailer. winter project. It WAS a diesel tknk for farm field use. We have the skills to cut safely. Before we do..............................................
1...
So picked up some barrels today. Never used. CLEAN. two threaded holes in the lid. The kettle grill lid I wanted to use is too small. How many grates can a guy put in a" original lid" UDS? I mean- with enough room for pork butts....and cook evenly. Im looking to replace my 4 rack propane...
Gotcha. I grew u[p on farm so "disc blade" is the term I would use. Ive been looking for a source for used ones. A discada wok would be nice, but Id prefer one that has been used. More genuine. Im using antique milk cans for Cream Can meals, so love to keep it real. But we have multiple farm...
Thats waht I was thinking for starters. Some sports shows maybe . Banquet donation for the local sportsman's groups. 250 seems kinda low unless a guy is really doing a basic rough job. I get it though.... If a guy can build it himself....whay spend 600 hundred. BUT I know alot of wealthy dudes...
Starting my own build. I have a source for clean unused barrels, no liners, locking lids. 5 bucks. Wondering if there is money to be made building and selling these. I retire next year. I have time on my hands a space to work. Need a part time job and working from home would be great. Just not...
