Trying to choose between Traeger or Oklahoma Joe

Ok...so upon further review.....the Traeger is off the table. Thank you for the input. Now I am deciding between the Rec Tec 590 or the above Oklahoma Joe. Same cooking dimensions, but we are talking about a $300 price difference. I must say, I am EXTREMELY impressed so far with Rec Tec...

Trying to choose between Traeger or Oklahoma Joe

So I think I would like to pick up a pellet smoker. I am trying to decide between a Traeger Pro Series 34 or an Oklahoma Joe Rider DLX. ‎ The Rider seems a bit bigger and has a searing plate that I thought was kinda cool since that seemed to be the downfall of pellet smokers. Price wise they...

    Wood for smoking

Thanks for the info everyone!! Yeah, maintaining the firebox temp is going to be a challenge. I always big temp spike when I add in the chunks over the hot coals so wondering how it will be putting a big log on instead. Maybe I'll do a test run on an empty grill and see how it goes. Hate to...

    Wood for smoking

Good afternoon all!! I have a Chargriller Duo that I have the offset smoker attachment for. When I smoke, I primarily use charcoal and wood chunks. I got a cord of oak a year or 2 ago for our fireplace which ended up having a crack and was leaking fumes into the house. So no more...

    Meat placement on smoker grates

Hey guys, So I have a question. I have a Chargriller Duo that I have the attached firebox for. I did all the mods recommended for the Chargriller Pro and got it working pretty well. Inside my smoking chamber, I have the main grates and then the grates that attach to the cover...the one that...

    Pork Butt Timing Question

Sorry...using a Charbroil Pro smoker and was planning on 250. I'm really leaning towards the friday. This way it can go as long as needed and I'm not freaking out lol. It's a surprise party so I have enough crap to deal with Saturday. I like the apple juice idea...how long do you usually reheat...

    Pork Butt Timing Question

That's exactly what I'm worried about. If I make it Friday, I'm assuming I can't let it sit in the cooler overnight. So if I shred and put in fridge, how long do you think I need to reheat in smoker later? Should I add wood when reheating it or just use the charcoal briquettes?

    Pork Butt Timing Question

Can you mix meats on the smoker?

Looking to smoke a few racks of ribs this weekend. Rough cooking time is about 6 hours-ish. Can I add on some drummies towards the end of the cooking process (say with about an hour and a half left on ribs), or is mixing raw food with stuff almost done a bad idea? Thanks!!

Attached smoker Box Question for Char griller Duo

So I am still very new to smoking...got my Duo end of the summer last year. Spring is coming here in New England, so I am looking forward to starting back up again. I had some issues with my smoker last year, primarily with temp control. But in reading up on things over the winter, I found some...

Smoking newbie with a few questions

Thanks for the tips!!!! I think next time I am going to look into the bigger pieces of wood. They had them, but I went with chunks because I wasn't sure if they would fit on my chamber, But after I got home and looked at it, I think they will work. That might help quite a bit. I also only...

Smoking newbie with a few questions

Hello all!!! So I am new to smoking. I recently had an electric smoker to get me started, and got hooked. We recently moved into a new house, so I was able to convince the wife (with lots of begging) that I needed a new grill. I ended up getting a dual fuel with propane on one side and charcoal...
