Question about propane hookup in a food warmer build.

Ok, I have a Northern Tool burner, http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_15490_15490?cm_mmc=Google-pla-_-Food%20Processing-_-Cooking%20Stoves%20%2B%20Burners-_-330973&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=330973&gclid=CJfJzu3GqLwCFQIOOgod8nMAIw  That is sitting at the bottom of the cabinet. My...

Question about airflow for a converted food warming cabinet.

Recently acquired a nice food warmer. Bout 6' tall by 20" wide and 26" deep. Primarily going to use it for cold smoking but I have a propane burner, and if temps are high enough I may use it as a hot smoker as well.  My question is, the guy I bought it from had the same basic idea as me. He cut...

    Need a grinder recommendation.

Been using a Waring crapola grinder from bed bath and while it does work, it's time to upgrade. I do 10lb batches, doubt I'd do a bigger batch but not sure. So I'm looking at a #12 or #22. The biggest thing I want is something that has a large meat tray. I don't want to have to keep throwing...

    Berkel Slicer question.

I picked up a really nice 12" slicer off craigslist. It's in good shape, blade is sharp. Everything works. BUT it hasn't be cleaned well for a while. I'm trying to figure out how to remove the blade to clean everything as well as I can.  Now, I know your first question is, "what model" that's...

Welding/Build question needs some help with cast iron to cast steel weld.

I got my second air tank to use as a firebox yesterday. The "problem" is that I think it's cast iron, where the other tank is cast steel. The main cook tank rings like a gong when I hit it with a hammer, the new tank is just a dull thud.  So the question. Will there be any issues welding the...

    Help, dual tank setup question.

Ok, I have procured a 60 gallon compressor tank for the main cook chamber, and have now procured a 20 gallon for the firebox. Question is. I'd really like to mount them end to end. But my concern is I'll loose too much heat and the cook chamber won't get hot enough. The cook chamber currently...

Looking to purchase a welder. Need some help.

Ok, I'm looking to purchase a welder so I can get started on my build. I'll start by saying that I have absolutely NO experience with welding or welders. I know enough to sound intelligent in a conversation and that's about it. I would really like to stick with 110v, I know 220 is better but...

    Firebox question.

I'm having trouble locating a small amount of 1/4" plate in my area. I have however, been able to locate 1/4" diamond plate (steel not aluminum) What's the difference as far as welding and actual functionality? Would it be a good substitute?

    Design questions

Design questions. I'm getting ready to make cuts. Does it mater which end the drain is on? My tank has a hole that is in the perfect location for the drain, But it also happens to be at the end I was thinking of putting the firebox. Only reason is whoever cut the motor off did a poor job...

    Curing and cold smoking questions.

Ok, I've got a whole belly, roughly 10lbs that's been curing for 10 days today. I used a dry cure with mortons tenderquick and brown sugar. I believe it's Todd's recipe but not sure right now. Question is, it's going to be a PITA to smoke during the week. What is the best way to hold it till...

    First ever build. Thoughts, suggestions?

I finally got my grubby mitts on a 60 gallon air compressor tank. Tank is actually in excellent shape but whoever had it cut off the motor and now it's just asking to be used as a smoker. Let me start by saying I have ABSOLUTELY no experience working with metal. My end result is "hopefully"...

Dual file cabinet cold smoker. Questions.

Ok, I'm hoping to get some pics here soon. But I just finished this build. I have a 5 drawer, fire proof file cabinet as the main cook box. I have a cheap, $30 walmart special as the fire box. I used a side burner from an old grill as my heat source and cast iron plate to hold the chunks...

Where to get propane tanks in Upstate NY?

I live in Rochester NY and have been looking all over for a 100-120 gallon propane tank to start an RF build but I'm starting to think they don't exist? Anyone know of a reliable source for them around me? I don't mind traveling a bit but not too far. Thanks,

    Welder question

I'm looking to build some grill grates for a backyard grill. Basically just 1" square tube with 3/4" expanded steel. My question is, I don't have a welder. I will obviously need one to put the grates together. So, what should I get? That's kind of an open question. I've got about $200 to...

Smoker build help. Opinions on a source

Ok, I'm working on a file cabinet build. I've got a large, 5 drawer cabinet, outside measurements are roughly 14"x30"x5.5'. I'm in process of cutting the drawers and mounting the expanded steel grates. What I need help with is the best heat source to use. This is primarily going to be a cold...

    Help with smoker build

So I got my hands on a nice commercial filing cabinet with the idea that I was going to turn it into a slow smoker. I'm running into a few obstacles though. 1.) Anyone know of a cheap source of expanded steel? I've looked around here and anything rigid enough for a cook grate is crazy...

Brisket done a day or two prior?

I'm going to be doing a large cookout in a few weeks and I have a question. I plan to do 2 butts, and a brisket. The butts I'm comfortable doing ahead and just reheating. However, would it be safe/advisable to do the brisket 2 days before the cookout or should I do it the day of? Either is a...

    Prime rib question

First time doing a whole prime rib. Got a 5lb, bone in piece of heaven that I'm going to throw on the smoker tomorrow. Question is, roughly how long would this take to cook. I know all about cooking to temp and what not, I just need a rough estimate to know when to start it. Thanks much. Rob

    How long

Just trying to gauge when I need to start my brisket tomorrow morning. I got a 13.5# packer going in. Need to get it done for dinner tomorrow night. Just curious, anyone that's done some lately, how long have they taken? This isn't my fist brisket, but this is the first for one so large. Thanks...

Where do smokers go to die?

I'm looking for a propane smoker, preferably a GOSM big block or Smoke Vault 24" but really any size will do. Preferably something in rough shape. I don't actually need it to work because I'm using this for a project where I'm building a cold smoker. I'd be interested in pretty much any block...
