    Cookout...Need Help!

I am cooking up a couple butts this weekend for a medium sized cookout. It looks like we're going to have around 25 adults and a few children there. We're doing potluck style so we'll have heavy appetizers, some baked beans and all the fix-ins. My question is how many butts do I need to cook...

    Peach Tree Wood Question

I have some peach trees at my house that are in need of trimming this year. Would that wood work in a smoker? The brances are small and would be chipped or chunked up. If it will work, is it best to let the branches dry out, then chip the wood, or chip it, then dry it? Thanks

    12000 btu side burner

I am putting in an outdoor kitchen and have a question about the side burner. Will 12,000 btu be enough to get a pan hot enough to blacken fish? How about boiling big pots of water? I like to cook frogmore stews outside and I'm hoping the heat will be enough so I can stow away my outdoor...

    SAMS MES vs 30" model

We looked at the 30 at Bass Pro last night and decided we definitely like the 40 better. We bought the 3 year warranty on the last model so we have to work that out somehow getting that exchanged for a new 3 year warranty on the new unit. I'm sure Sams can work something out for us though...

    SAMS MES vs 30" model

After the well documented trouble getting my first MES from SAMS up to temperature, Masterbuilt asked me to send it back in to be tested and said they would replace the unit. Well I get an email back last night from Masterbuilt saying they are going to send me a check for what I paid for the...

    Smoked then Fried

Has anybody ever tried smoking a chicken or turkey until it's done then dropping in hot grease for a quick second or two just to get that awesome skin that you get on a fried turkey? I love the smoky flavor of the meat off the smoker better than I do a fried turkey but the skin isn't even close...

    One Last MES Question

How long does it take a normal 40" MES to heat to 275? I'm trying to do everything I can before I send this thing back. Today I tested it, in my garage, out of the wind on a 65 degree day. It took an hour and 10 minutes to get up to 275 with the vent closed and no meat inside or water in the...

    Returning a MES

I am working the SAMS angle now but the problem is that it was purchased at a SAMS 5 hours away and the one thats 30 minutes from me doesn't carry them. I'm trying to work something out with them first. I definitely dont want to go without a smoker since I just spent 300 bucks to get one.

    Returning a MES

Has anyone had to return their MES to masterbuilt due to problems? After talking in length yesterday with customer service they recommended that I send the unit back to them to be "tested" due to the heating problems I have been having. They are handling the shipping and will have ups pick the...

    40" MES Problems

So did you take the original unit back to SAMS first? They told me to approach it from Masterbuilts end since it was still under warranty eventhough I purchased the extended warranty through SAMS.

    Rib Disaster/Need Help

Ok, in response to a few of the questions about my question. I did pull the membrane and the ribs were bought at walmart. Also, we're right at sea level so I'll use the 212 as a guage to test my thermometer. Since this thread I started another one saying my smoke went bad again today. I...

    40" MES Problems

I think we ruled out the outlet being the problem because we used it yesterday at my house and today at my parents house. I contacted SAMS already by email and got a response to contact masterbuilt since it was still under their warranty. I would take it back directly but my inlaws picked the...

    40" MES Problems

After yesterdays rib debacle I decided to try again today with a chicken. We set the temerature to 250 and let the smoker warm up for a while before we put the chicken in. The temp never got about 210 in the smoker. We also measured the temp with an extrenal probe and the temp on it matched...

Smoked Twice Baked taters w Qview

What's the general time it takes for the taters to get tender? My wife cooked some in the smoker for us last weekend since I was sick. We put them in for about 2 hours at 250 and she said they were hard. Do you think we went too long or too short?

    Rib Disaster/Need Help

OK so everybody says check the temperature on the MES which I definitely will do. My question now is how and then what do I do? Say I set the unit temperature to 250 and the thermometer reads 275, Do I then start setting the unit at 225 when I want a 250 smoke? When the MES's are off are they...

    Rib Disaster/Need Help

We attempted to smoke ribs for the first time today to no avail. First off, I thought they were baby backs but now think they were actually spare ribs. Do baby backs actually say Baby Back ribs on the package or do they say Loin Back ribs? These said Loin Back. They were 4.00 a pound from...
