    Seeking advice on new smoker

You guys have me sold on another kettle. I guess my main concern is on every day weeknight cooks where I just want to seat a sous vide steak or cook some quick chicken thighs. Propane is so easy to just turn on and wait ten minutes before cooking. I love wings but the slow n sear ticks a LOT of...

    Seeking advice on new smoker

Not looking at the 26-reason is I want something easy to fire up with no prep-literally hitting a switch. Hence the reason for pellet grills and gravity fed recommendations. I have a chimney starter for my WSM and sure it’s easy but it’s a few more steps than I want for a weeknight cook.

    Seeking advice on new smoker

I’ve had an MES and now use a WSM 18.5” with a FireBoard and put viper fan. I don’t like the cleanup and setup time associated with the WSM, but I love that it’s set and forget with the FireBoard. I also have a Weber propane grill, but I’m looking towards something that can do it all. I don’t...

Problem with MES140G reporting wrong (high) temp

Yeah, I noticed that the Thermoworks probe was about 3" inside of the Masterbuilt probe. However, it still seems like it was short cycling. I don't think enough heat was able to get around the cookie sheet and cook the pork butt.

Problem with MES140G reporting wrong (high) temp

Edit: I think I discovered the problem. I put the meat on the second highest rack and a cookie sheet with tin foil just below it on the third highest rack. I removed the sheet and the temperature seems to be registering correctly once again. I can only assume that the cookie sheet (a half sheet...

How to season a new MES?

Thanks all-I didn't have a propane torch for the AMNPS so I used chunks for the first season. I accidently bought chunks and then read to use chips so I broke a bunch of the chunks down into smaller chips before putting them in the hopper. Seems to have worked just fine. One thing is the top...

How to season a new MES?

Bought an MES 40” for Black Friday. Looks like it’s got gen 2.5 internals but gen 1 external (vent on top right). also bought some pellets and the AMNPS. now to season it. The manual says turn it on 275 for 3 hours then add wood chunks toward the end. I’ve also read to spray it with olive oil...

How good *is* an electric smoker?

Hey so one other question-how do you guys deal with finishing chicken? 275 degrees isn’t enough to crisp the skin. I can use my grill during the summer, but I’d rather not do that in the winter. im guessing maybe the oven inside for a while or put it under the broiler?

    Good deal on MES

Is this a Gen 1 40" for $229? I can't see where the vents are or what kind of drip tray it has. If it's a gen 1, that seems like a decent deal-and based on bearcarver, it's better than a gen 2, but not as good as a gen 2.5.

How good *is* an electric smoker?

Im in northern Virginia to get an idea of temperatures here-it got down to 30 once already but it won’t be arctic by any means. I don’t really plan on cold smoking. Chicken wings, thighs, and smoked whole chicken will be the main things. We might smoke a turkey and some ribs now and then. A...

How good *is* an electric smoker?

Done lots of research over the past few weeks about an electric smoker and I’m curious-what separates it from just an oven you stick outdoors? the complaints I read are that the installed smoke mechanism on an MES only burns for 30/60 minutes and then you have to refill it which doesn’t scream...

Advice on which 30” MES to buy that works with AMNPS

I posted a thread a while back asking for advice, and the common trend was to get a gen 2.5 MES 40”. I understand the reasoning but the fact is that I’m just starting this hobby and 99% of the time it’s my wife and I, so it’s unlikely I’ll ever do a whole brisket and I don’t mind cutting ribs...

    Good deal on MES

It looks like this is the gen 2.5 for $320 on amazon right now: Masterbuilt MB20076718 Bluetooth Electric Smoker 240G Digital, Black with SS Door tractor supply company still beats it (they have a 2.5 for $299), but since I don’t have a TSC near me, I have to pay $20 in shipping.

    Good deal on MES

Really hoping for a good deal on a 40” gen 2.5. So far, tractor supply company has it for $299. Im in northern Virginia. that BJ’s one could work for me-it’s a 30” but a great price-any idea if it’s the one bear carver recommends?

Best time of year to buy one-black Friday?

Do the MES’ go on sale during Black Friday? I’m looking at this one at Tractor Supply Co: https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/masterbuilt-bluetooth-electric-smoker-mes-340g-mb20075118 it’s currently $299 plus tax and shipping, so if I can get it for less, all the better.

    New to smoking-need suggestions

Hi-new to smoking and want to jump in. from the research I’ve done, I’m currently between propane or electric. I know for electrics that Masterbuilt seems to be the go-to brand and the AMAZN pellet thing is definitely required, but I need some more help. I think bear carver or someone may have...
