    Advice on 1st mig welder

The lincoln welders at Lowes are imported.  Either Lincoln or Miller would do you just fine.  I would lean towards the Miller 180 autoset.  It automatically adjusts for your material selection.  Look for a welder that has infinite wire and voltage control.  Models with preset voltages and wire...

Built another one, center firebox double reverse flow patio model.

Built another patio model over the weekend for another buddy.  Pretty much the same as the last one I did just a little bigger.  This one has a cooking area of 18"x30" with a wrap around shelf.  Here is the pic.

    Simple, small, RF build

I go the tank from a buddy.  We believe it was a 1940's/50's air tank.  All the seems were brazed.  It's been tough working while the smoker is going, but I'm managing, lol.

    Simple, small, RF build

I realized I never posted a finished pic.  Here is the smoker in its final resting spot outside the shop.  I am happy with the way it turned out.  Can't wait to build the next one.

First brisket goes on in the morning!!! My Rub Recipe for brisket.

Well the smoke went well.  Only pic I have is some leftover brisket on a sammie.  I was busy in the shop when it got sliced up and they gratiously left me enough for one sandwhich.  Toasted roll and provolone to top it off.  The rub was very tasty.  Enjoy the one and only pic.

First brisket goes on in the morning!!! My Rub Recipe for brisket.

Well had so much fun doing a variety last weekend, I decided to do a brisket tomorrow.  Getting up at 4:30 again to start the smoke.  I'll have to take pics in the morning of the brisket all rubbed down.  I mixed up a rub that is similar to what I use on my prime rib.  Always get lots of...

Newb trying to start LARGE -- need some advice

Depending on fuel it may be difficult to maintain 350, although the thermal mass will help you once you get it there.  If you burn wood only then 350 should be no problem.  Lump would be second and briquettes last in terms of heat output.  On my buddys small patio model we built, he can run at...

Newb trying to start LARGE -- need some advice

You may get some movement from the plate at 30" wide while cooking, but your temps are gonna be below 400F so the movement at the baffle plate will be barely visible to the eye.  If your concerned about it run a piece of angle lengthwise down the center of the baffle and have it installed with...

Newb trying to start LARGE -- need some advice

I don't know much, but from my research the area under the baffle plate should be the same or larger then your firebox to cook chamber opening.  You are undersized on your firebox if you plan on using the full 48x84 tank.  You want your firebox to be 1/3 the volume of your cook chamber. ...

First cook on new smoker with Qview

Well, I got my smoker finished up last weekend and went to town on it today.  Prepped everything yesterday and got  up at 4:30Am to get the fire going.  For the record this is my first go at doing any smoking.  As mentioned in roll call I mainly cooked over wood with direct heat.  I was happy...
