The way I understand it, the temp control is how the auger speed is controlled. What seems to happen is the auger pushes too many pellets to burn at the low 225 setting. I'll call them later but I don't have time to be on the phone trouble shooting.

Why don't you want another Traeger? I think they're well built and function well. I've only had mine for a couple months but so far are really like it.

Pro Series 22. I really like it. One thing I’m wondering about is the controller that’s on the timberline series. I wonder if that thing can really get to500*. Mine gets up to 435 or so 440 once.
