    Flavors

So. Im sure this is a "smokey" debate but Electric vs Coal vs Pellet vs Stick Burner..... Im guessing that as with anything BBQ its up to the preference of the owner/user, but is there a consensus on the flavor differences and final product (in generalities) between the various methods of heat...

    Rub Proportions

That seems to follow the few rub recipes Ive found, with that aspect you mentioned, CliffCarter. TallBM Sounds reasonable. I appreciate everyones suggestions. Im working on my base rub now, trying to get it to a place where it can be "bumped" in different directions. For example, my inlaws are...

    Best Beginner Charcoal Smoker

As said many darned times here on the forum, the ECB is an awesome smoker to learn on if the budget only calls for under 100 bucks. You might need to mod the body with gaskets and mod to the air flow ect, but it can be a great way to learn to smoke. However, being in the same boat and getting...

    Howdy from NY

I hear that. The first project is moving, then we have some minor repairs to the house to do. Chimney needs a rebuild, and possibly some new appliances (washer and dryer) and run a new hookup to the top floor. Running the pipes and drains, venting to the outside, running a secondary condenser...

    Howdy from NY

I was looking at an Oklahoma Joe. Would require more work than I wanna put into a unit during a renovation and expense prone time in the house owning process.

    Rub Proportions

There are usually "guidelines" for building a great rub. Use Kosher Salt, coarse pepper, balance sweet and tangy flavors, spice ect. What do you all think is a good "General rule" (LOL, rules in BBQ....bwahahaha)  for a rub?

    I've Decided. I think..

Well, buying my first house. Budget, under 400. Here are the ideas 1. Build an open pit. 2. Listen to practicality and get the WSM 22.5 3. Purchase and fully mod an Oklahoma Joe's or equivalent. Idea 1 and 3 are for bravado. The "big boy toy" aspect I like. Granted, ultimately I'm after...

I'd love too, but the budget says "one or the other"

    EMS and flavor

So. Ego and flare in my head says "get the biggest Oklahoma Joe's you can buy and mod it. It looks cooler. My practicality side says "wsm will do ya fine and it will be just as great without any major renovations. Out the box, good to smoke" But man I wanna big ole offset. When family comes...

    Howdy from NY

Brad here from the Hudson Valley region of NY. Getting geared up to buy my first house, and as soon as that happens, whammo, smoker town! I think the WSM is on my desire list, 22.5 model. But my ego says "get the big ole offset because it's big and looks badass and would need a few dollars in...
