New (old) addition to the stable

I think I might just do that, miss Debi.

New (old) addition to the stable

This smoker is a charcoal-fired bullet type unit, so no gas and no gas regulator; however, there is a recall out on it as well. Seems the charcoal pan has a hole in it which can let hot embers fall through, which is a bad thing if you're using it on a wood deck or balcony . I think I'm going...

    BBQ Galore!

The wifey's not too fond of rubs, so I ended up doing three racks of ribs that were plain and two racks that I used the Rendezvouz seasoning before I smoked them. I also used the Rendezvous seasoning on one of the plain racks after smoking to make a Memphis-style dry BBQ rack. Everyone loved the...

    BBQ Galore!

I'm still stuffed today from all of the good food yesterday! We had a great time and everybody loved the pulled pork and ribs. Even found time to smoke a fattie or two. The butts were the best I've done, and finished earlier than I had expected, which was good, because the ribs took much...

New (old) addition to the stable

I decided to try smoking my own barbecue last summer, and mentioned such to my father-in-law. He told me that he had bought a smoker a long time ago and had only used it once, and then given up because he couldn't keep the heat up in the unit using charcoal, and that I could have it if I wanted...

    BBQ Galore!

Having the family over today (Saturday) for a pool party/BBQ. Right now there's two 8 lb butts in ol' Gimpy (My Brinkmann vertical smoker - the tack welds on one of the legs broke, so she's propped up on bricks on one corner - a true Redneck smoker!! ), and come about 6am in the morn, I'll be...

    GOSM Low Heat Fix (w/pics)

That's exactly what I did, and you're right, the regulator and hose are 1/8" npt, while the needle valve is 1/4". Got my parts this morning, and I'm good to go for this weekend. Thanks for the heads up!

    GOSM Low Heat Fix (w/pics)

Uh oh...the regulator's not a 1/4" npt?? What did you have to get?? 3/8" - 1/4" adapters?? I bought a couple of needle valves from the same site, and am going to install one on my GOSM tomorrow (after my trip to Lowe's , apparently).

    First ribs..............

Cascadedad, your wife picked up what's commonly referred to as "babyback" ribs, while Debi's pictures are spare ribs. Babybacks usually have less cartilage and much smaller bones, and as you've found out, are more expensive. I found babybacks on sale this week @ Foodlion for $2.99 a pound...

    Rendezvous' dry rib seasoning

I went back to Sam's today, and started kicking myself - all of the seasoning on the shelf was gone! I started walking around, looking at unopened pallets, cussing under my breath for not getting more yesterday, when I spied an unopened pallet of seasoning....well, it was unopened before I got...

    Rendezvous' dry rib seasoning

Hey all, I was wandering around the local Sam's Club today, looking at the various spices they had, when I glanced up at the top shelf and thought "Oh Sweet Mother of all things Good in Life!!" There on the top shelf was Charlie Vergo's Rendezvous dry rib seasoning!! And only $1.81 per...

    Beetles this year

We usually get tons of japanese beetles in the summertime, but this year the population got cut way back by the late cold snap we had in spring. I'm not complaining one bit, either - first time our canna's have survived the summer. BTW, get ready for a big stink when you take the full bags...

Do Not Do This!!! (Spew Alert)

I saw something similar to this on TV. A kid had put on a bark-activated shock collar on a dare; something set it off, and the kid yelled "ouch", which of course set it off again, to which he replied again "OUCH!", which set it off AGAIN, etc etc. The last frames of the video that I saw was...

    New from Kansas

I've got a Brinkmann vertical smoker modified to use propane, and leave it burning all night when doing butts without watching it religiously. a GOSM is on my wishlist, in fact.

Yes'm, unfortunately I am. Tennessee is Bible Belt country, and as such there are several counties that are dry. Thankfully, Nashville isn't..
