    A little toy for myself.

Heck, I’d buy one for my not steep slope yard. I’d probably enjoy mowing the lawn with that.

    A little toy for myself.

Here’s my “stay put” hobby. RC cars/trucks/planes would be fun, but if I crash a beer, at least I don’t need to replace expensive equipment. Ingredients are fairly cheap. Smoking equipment cuts into the brewing budget at times too. But it’s all good. We all have things that we enjoy spending...

Winter 2026/2027 - The Year of the "Super El Niño"

I’m north of Keene, in Claremont. It’s funny how that short of distance makes a difference. Maybe elevation makes a difference too.

Here I go with more spam stuff. Has anyone tried spam w/ Japanese barbecue sauce?

It’s that time of year. Look for the pumpkin spice flavored Spam.

    Chimney Starters

I’ll add my vote to the Weber. Mine is close to 20 years old and still going strong.

Winter 2026/2027 - The Year of the "Super El Niño"

As for driving a double. No thanks. I’ve seen those in the wind. I stay way away from them. And, how the hell do you back those things up? I’m good with one trailer, but two? Hell no.

Winter 2026/2027 - The Year of the "Super El Niño"

I am not looking forward to this winter. Here in New Hampshire, we can get some big storms. And the snow stays put for the winter. A friend moved to Colorado a few years ago and told me they can get a foot of snow, but it’s gone the next day. Not here. When it snows, it’s still about the same...

    Any other SMF Bourbon/Whiskey "enthusiasts"?

On sale at the New Hampshire liquor store for $36.95 for the 1.75L bottle. Regular price is $62. Edit: that sounds like an advertisement. I just thought it was a great deal. That’s about $25 off.

    Sauerkraut

I can get a small cabbage into a quart size mason jar. I try to stay at a pound to a pound and a half. Anything larger requires another jar.

    The Official Dad Joke Thread

So there’s a couple threads about jokes, but no official joke thread. I hereby declare this thread the official joke thread. I’ll start. What is black and white and red all over? A hideously overcooked steak, further ruined by the addition of ketchup and mayonnaise.

    Bourbon Glazed Meatloaf

I’m sorry if I start a pandemic for craving smoked meatloaf. That was not my intention. We’ve already had one pandemic this century, we don’t need another. Even if it’s wrapped in bacon.

    Bourbon Glazed Meatloaf

It’s been way too long since I’ve done this in the smoker. I haven’t had the time to smoke much these days. The best I can do is my propane fed Weber. It was still delicious though.

    Bourbon Glazed Meatloaf

Someone at work brought meatloaf for lunch. Heating it up in the microwave in the break room caused the aroma to go everywhere. So, I had to make this again. I did this on the Weber. I think I need to do it in the smoker next time.

    Sauerkraut

I use mason jars to make mine. I bought wide mouth lids with grommets and an air lock. I also bought glass weights to keep the cabbage under the liquid. Nothing like fresh, homemade sauerkraut.

    Any other SMF Bourbon/Whiskey "enthusiasts"?

It would be nice if they’d send some here. Blanton’s was also in the last drop, but I didn’t get a bottle. I broke my budget buying what I bought.

    Any other SMF Bourbon/Whiskey "enthusiasts"?

I hope that’s true, but not around here. Here in New Hampshire, they do “ghost drops” at the liquor stores. I scored a bottle of that when the last drop happened at my local liquor store. This is what I scored then.

    Sad Salad Night

That looks like a very good salad. I used to not like salads, but the older I get, the better I like them. I like the name, Sad Salad Night. I too gave up soda years ago. I drink mostly water now. My water just happens to be steeped in grains, and boiled with hops.

Do you still go to your State or County fair?

I don’t believe New Hampshire has a state fair, but there are several regional/county fairs. I’ve only been to the Hopkinton Fair. I only went because I was working at the beer tent. I won’t go unless I have a reason to.

    How long in the fridge

Wow, bacon lasts more than a week? I’m lucky if it lasts a few days. I may have gotten it to last for five days. Once.
