I want a refer/freezer thermometer for our second unit. I have a bluetooth one, but I dont love it. I would rather switch to a Wifi and use my phone....if I can do so without breaking the bank.
Any recommendations?
...for five hours now and the ribs are only 166 degrees. I added some sauce and wrapped them at about 160 degrees. Should I be using the thermometer on the grill (it is pretty accurate) or checking at the grill as I do when smoking?
I have read several methods for cooking the ribs and this is...
...smoke any meat UNWRAPPED for 2 to 4 hours, then remove from grill, DOUBLE WRAP in ALUMINUM FOIL TIGHTLY, place back into grill insert thermometer probe 1/2 through the thickest part, turn grill temperature setting up to 225°F degrees and close the lid. Then wait for the meat temperature to...
What's the best wireless meat thermometer you've used for low-and-slow cooks? My current probes are all over the place with temps—nothing reliable inside the smoker. I've heard Meater gets a ton of love for accuracy and app alerts, but curious about your real-world experiences (pros/cons...
...cooked them for about 1 hour until the internal temperature reached 93-95 degrees.
I wasn't impressed with the results. I think it was due to the very fatty cut or the wrong temperature setting. By the way, could you tell me how to properly calibrate the Inkbird 26s thermometer? I'll keep trying.
...on a new Traeger today. A brisket flat and I through some sacrificial corn on the cob and half an apple in there to keep the moisture up. Thermometer issues are annoying, and now it is pouring down rain. Following some advice that I read on this forum, I purchased a Thermoworks RFX just now...
Welcome from ND
I would suggest getting a digital thermometer' hang in center of smoker and set your temp on the medium setting and let it go for about 45-60 mins to see what type of temps you are getting and go from there. Yes you should be able to make some delicious food in that unit.
...to the party.
I cook and smoke meat on a gas grill all the time.
Vents on a gasser really mess with controlling temps versus the hood thermometer and what the meat actually feels at the grate level. I monitor the actual temps with Thermo Works grate level and meat probes. Here is how I...
Those are a great idea, but do you want the thermometer in the lid or on the side of the kettle about a 1/2" above the grate. That would give you a more accurate temp reading.

...I couldn't do souz vide, I threw them in an ice bath for 15 mins then put them back on the smoker until they hit 165°.
The pic with the thermometer is what they looked like when I pulled them to do an ice bath,
Total cook time was 4 hrs 50 mins.
Less wrinkled this time but still not...
I would start by checking the calibration of the probe in some boiling water. Use another thermometer to verify rhe probe is reading correct....if it is, I would subscribe to the theory that the probe was positioned in a fat seam and unable to get a good reading.
I'm spoiled I guess . The SmokeFire reports cooking temps without a probe hooked up . Sends an email alert even if I don't have the app open .
If I do a long cook , I do hook up my Signals .
@mowin which brings up a thought , your trouble could be a bad thermocouple not reading the temp...
...shear pin on a regular basis. Why PB didn't replace the entire unit is beyond me. Too late now with the change of ownership.
Uh, no one mentioned the need for a side thermometer to monitor the pit temps.
I use a couple of Thermoworks units so it alerts me if temps go over or under the set...
Not sure I have any good advice since this is my first run. I lit the KJ and got it up to 200F (on the KJ dome thermometer) then fired up the Flame Boss. It immediately read 270F which had me questioning the KJ thermometer, but it turns out the grate temp and the dome temp hadn't settled in. I...
