    Gen 1 MES 40 won't maintain temperature

I spent the better part of last night studying your U Bolt info and link. Excellent! As soon as my new tube comes in, I'll be doing the U Bolts too. Thanks, then gonna experiment with the ground pellets a little to see if there's a loss of favor. Mike

The history of the AMNPS and why you need one.

Chef JimmyJ, I have had the AMNTS for several years & all I can use it for is to smoke bacon & cheese. Why? Because the tube smoker will not stay lit when I turn on the gas burner on my Masterbuilt vertical propane smoker. Before the tube smoker I had the A-MAZE-N dust smoker. It, too...

Is a mailbox mod necessary for an AMNTS in a propane smoker?

Matty, What solution did you come up with? I'm in EXACT same situation m deciding if I need to go the mailbox route or not

    Using an A-maze-n tube?

I season and cold smoke burgers 2 hours, (chops and steaks 2+ hours) with Amnts then grill normally for short cooks.

Amazen tube or tray for gas grill

...I did replace the wooden horizontal skewer with a vertical space saving pin made out of wire so it can't get knocked or fall out. The round Amnts is 2" in diameter. The glass is fine so far since nothing drips on it and the bottom is really thick. A foil ball would work but the heavy glass...

    First MES Gen 2.5 Smoke

...of ignition.Consider using the tray in the traditional way but since you already have a tube consider this: https://www.smokingmeatforums.com/threads/u-bolt-mod-for-the-amnts.271846/ If you're a little ambitious consider a mailbox mod.Search it here or on google and you'll find plenty of info.

New Pit Boss 850 Pro Series from Lowes

Thanks for your response, Chef Jimmy! I'm familiar with the difference between PID and DT, that's why I opted for this model as my first pellet grill. I wanted the better temp control without spending a $1000 on a Traeger or Camp Chef, plus I like the easy slide for direct flame access if I...

    New mailbox

Yes, all hole are de-burred and there are some holes in the bottom as well. I sometimes use one of my AMNPS, but typically use a AMNTS on a support.

    Shavings, chips or dust?

That sounds like a plan. I've been giving a tin can full of small holes a go but I'm not sure if I'm packing the dust correctly

    Masterbuilt MOD help

Might wanna try using the AMNTS (tube) with u-bolt mod in your mailbox. With whole pellets you'll get enough smoke. I've avoided the mailbox mod so far and use the modded u-bolt tube with pellets that I've ground down in a blender and I simply stick it in the bottom left corner and let it do its...

smoke house to fire box distance?

...drain tile or steel pipe... Or, for cold smoke, a very small fire in a 5 gallon steel bucket, inside the smoker, with a sheet steel lid partially askew to allow for minimal air supply... Or use the AMNTS for smoke generation and an electric heater, when needed to keep the temp around 50-70F...

    Gen 1 MES 40 won't maintain temperature

I have the AMNPS and the AMNTS and much prefer the tube. IMO, two tubes is perfect for me. I'll put one in at the start of a long smoke on the bottom left side of the cabinet. It'll last for about 6-7 hours. Once the first one is almost spent, I'll put the other one in right next to it to...

I got a new smoker! Breaking it in with a pork butt.

Nice first round. Funny, hubby is now encouraging the habit. If you feel the flavor is lacking, adding a AMNTS with a load of pellets does wonders. Repeating @schlotz, a cheap welders blanket is your best friend (move over hubby) in the cold times. I got one for less than $20 USD from Harbor...

    New mes 130

You don't say where you're from, so we don't know what your Altitude is, but if you are at a high altitude you should be buying the AMNTS (Tube) smoker, and if you are at a low altitude, the AMNPS (Tray) would be for you. I would try it inside your MES 130 before you go to the bother of building...

    Gen 1 MES 40 won't maintain temperature

...in place of the bottom rack . I used to have the tube instead of the tray, and I think the tube stayed lit better. I've just ordered a new amnts tube should be here by Tuesday. Gonna also try that as well inside and see if it stays lit longer than the tray. Either way I'll most likely do...

    Gen 1 MES 40 won't maintain temperature

Thanks. I'll get the tube and try this. I used to place the tray on the bottom left, and it still would go out after 5-10 minutes. I have taken the chip loader completely out a long time ago since I also use the MB slow smoke add on. I appreciate the advice. Mike

New guy with MES - planning my first smoke

I don't like to spritz in my MES, I just don't like the heat loss and recovery time. If you are going to get the AMNTS, check out the u-bolt mod. https://www.smokingmeatforums.com/threads/u-bolt-mod-for-the-amnts.271846/ The old saying ; if your look'n you ain't cook'n...

New guy with MES - planning my first smoke

I was planning to get the AMNPS tray just because I’ve seen it recommended the most, is the tube a better choice?
