Great looking build! I had a UDS and a miniwsm but like you wanted something bigger than the mini and smaller then the drum so i built mine out of a jumbo joe. I call it a Jimmy ...nice having a medium size smoker / grill.
My name is Kevin. I live in South Carolina, but hail from Ohio/West Virginia. I am new to smoking, but mainly want to start smoking because I have always wanted to make my own summer sausage and jerky from deer that I harvest. As of now, I do not have a smoker. I am still considering my options...
I built a mini-WSM in a few hours and love it but wanted something a bit bigger.
Well, I got a new 30 gallon drum from Zoro tools for a decent price and did a burn and painted but the primer I used was high heat and the paint was high heat grill paint, both by Rustoleum. The paint never really...
Step 1: give the Brinkmann another good cleaning.
Step 2: list it on Craigslist. You should be able to get $25-$30 for it.
Step 3: take the money from the sale of the Brinkmann, add another $25-$30, and gather the required parts to build a miniWSM.
Step 4: start enjoying BBQing instead of...
I read a lot of threads on making the miniWSM and these look excellent. I wanted to see if there is a thread that you can point me to that has the prescription/parts for building this. I see there is a specific Vasconia pot, grates, the weber smokey, etc.
1) Vasconia pot - 32 quart...
It's slim pickings! If you have any Hispanic markets near you I'd look there. Check out a 10 gallon steel drum. They are larger in diameter, but would work . It'd sit on the SMJ Base not in it. Kind of like my pots where I attach the lid to the bottom of the pot...
Yes, my mistake I am ordering the ET-72 model. Interesting you did not go with the extra vent. I am torn between several different builds and trying to list out all of my parts. Thank you for your input.
Just saying what's up from so cal. New to the smoking world. I started with a stainless miniwsm I built. Did some chicken, girlfriend, friends, and coworkers loved it. So I worked up to tri tip, smoked a pizza, and did a pork shoulder a few months ago. I try to smoke something on Sunday's...
I've decided to build a mini-wsm as I like the small size. I ordered two IMUSA pots but unfortunately have to wait a week to get them. Maybe someday I will build a UDS if I need for smoking space.
I just wanted to say hello from Cleveland, Ohio. I'm very new to smoking. I was intrigued by the UDS and decided to build one. Just finished this week and will hopefully get to load it up with wings or ribs this weekend.
I'm looking to build a mini-wsm next so apapprently this is going to be...
What an amazing first build! That looks great so far. I smoke on a miniWSM, so I'm not going to be much for advice, but sure do love watching smoker builds. Great job. Keep it up!

Welcome Eric! :welcome:
If you like grilling on a Weber, you should check out BDSkelly's post on building a miniWSM http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/178390/bdskelly-step-by-step-on-building-a-mini-weber-smokey-mountain-mwsm
I copied his build, for the most part. They are easy and inexpensive.
Welcome CountryBug! :welcome:
If you're interested in building a smoker, check out BDSkelly's miniWSMbuild (there are many out there, but I quote his because I found his to be the most efficient. That's why I copied it). The mini is very inexpensive and easy to use. It's an awesome...
Douglass, don't discount charcoal smokers right away. If you have $100, you can easily buy everything you need to build you own miniWSM. After a few weekends with it, you'll have operating it down pat. Electrics are easy, but charcoal is fun!

I have been lurking the last couple days trying to figure out my build and could use some help and deciding how/what to build. I have been smoking on a very old weber kettle. The problem is the legs rusted out and the bottom dampers are basically gone which makes controlling heat difficult. ...
Alright so I stumbled upon this place trying to find build ideas and tips. I smoked my first pork butt on. Weber kettle 2 years Ago and then built myself a miniwsm and have done probably 25-30 cooks on that. Problem is it's too small.
I have a 28 gallon vertical compressor tank in the garage...
Here you go Duke. From my build post.
The first thing was to build the charcoal hopper. This is done by using expanded wire and cutting it to the 3" height. Wrap the Exp wire around the charcoal grate supplied with the Smoke Joe. I used rebar twist wire to hold it in place. ….Which would have...
