Have decided instead of building a miniWSM with my JJ, I cheated and bought a Stacker, with fire ring and diffuser from Cajun Bandit. Just dont have the tools and the time to build one myself. Not bad on price. About the same if I built it myself. Will post pics as soon as I get home and unpack it.
Because this started out with reference to Aaron Franklin, I'm gonna tell you what I've observed in his vids and what I've read in his book.
1) He started young in a Texas BBQ restaurant and learned from masters.
2) He left the business but came back to it as a calling because his friends...
This is my first smoke. I decided to do boneless pork chops. In a nutshell, it was great. I have always enjoyed smoked food, but never smoked myself. That will change from now on. My smoker of choice was a Mini-WSM
See that build here: http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/237831/my-take-at-a-mwsm...
You can build a mini-WSM for under $100, if you can find a tamale pot. I can feed our family of 4 easily with it. Fill racks of ribs you have to cut in half, as well as packer brisket. I've crammed to 9 pound butts in there once.
Keep your eyes peeled on CL. WSM's pop up occasionally. That's...
I had actually gotten to that point last night, and was frustrated because I couldn't find anything that I liked for the money.
Was thinking about doing a WSMMinibuild just as something to do, as well.
I did just look at this:
It looks pretty solid and appears that with RTV and some...
So, I was trying to build a miniWSM but getting the parts shipped to me in S Korea has proven to be quite difficult. Picking up a WSM this weekend (Saturday) and plan on "seasoning" it Sunday after my units holiday party Saturday night. Are there any "must do" mods before I smoke my Chirstmas...
Nice build! I smoke in cold weather all the time with my mini fleet. Here's a few things that will help more than a blanket.
1. Charcoal basket
2. Side Vents
3. Use side light method (side vents or SMJ gold required).
4. Cut out bottom of pot.
I have four mini's and my first I experimented...
After searching Dyna-Glo and seeing some of the mods and set ups that people have used with this smoker, I decided that the Dyna-Glo was the best option and have ordered it as well as RTV sealant and Nomex gasket material for the doors. I'll be assembling and seasoning it this weekend while I...
Hello Gentlemen,
I've been lurking for a while and thought I'd make a post as I am looking for some opinions as I have not smoked before. I was going to by a WSM but I do a ton of fabrication on the side and have a some 24" wide sheets of 3/16" left over and want to make a smoker with the...
Hi all,
I'm happy to find this forum, especially the great build pics, and surprised to see how long it's been around for.
To date I've run some ~9hour pork necks, a few spatchcocked brined chickens and a handful of pastramis in a Hark single door gas model, and pretty happy with the...
Check out the miniWSM, http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/newsearch?search=mini+wsm about as cheap and portable as it's going to get, depending on how hard it is to find the tamale smoker.
If you have a good sized troop, you may need to go with a full on...
My two cents on these damn charcoal smokers. Once you smoke on a WSM , you will wonder why you even bothered with any other vertical charcoal smoker. Honestly if you can save enough to buy one of the cheaper ones, save a bit longer and buy the WSM. I am going on 5 years now since I built my...

Thought I would put all my Q Views and cooking Experiance in one place,
so it would be easier to direct members to them who needed help or looking at trying something a little bit differant.

Well the search has come to a stop. I have come up empty handed finding the stuff I need to build a miniWSM. After back and forth with Weber customer service, I have found a dealer here in Korea that will give me a discount and make the 18.5 WSM within a reasonable price for me to make the...
Your choice will also depend on how many people you will be cooking for... If you want something small and really easy to control.. I suggest a very simple/cheap build.. and that would be the miniWSM... i did a quick search for ya for minibuilds...
Well here I go. I've been want to smoke some stuff and build a Mini.
Now I've been trying to find the key parts the pot, but to no luck. I can't find the Vasconia 32qt but I have found the Imusa 32qt can that be used. I have the Smokey Joe so I'm a third of the way there.
I'm following this...
+1 on the idea of building yourself a miniWSM. They easily cook a couple of ribs or birds if you install two grates. Add a charcoal basket and it goes 10 hours straight rock steady 250°. Really simple to build and cost next to nothing. If you want more space, build a bigger one. Or go RF (but...
In my mini-WSM when I want temps that low I use very few briquettes, 4-8 total in a snake pattern. 1 lit briquette. I pipe in the smoke using my mailbox mod and AmazeN tube smoker.
It's tough to do in the mini. I'd recommend trying it without anything cooking just to get the hang of it.
I've...
Hey guys, built my mini a year or so ago, I didn't take any build pics but it's fairly standard. SMJ silver, imusa 32qt pot using the method of many holes in the base. 2 weber gauges, reproduction wooden handle and high temp paint. I run it using no extra diffuser or water pan and am yet to...
