I'm in the drawing up/planning stage of building a vertical electric smoker. I plan on roughly 4' tall x 30"W x 30"D smoke chamber and an attached 2' tall or so heat chamber below that. Seems to be a fairly popular style for a semi-mobile smokehouse. I've read a lot on here about smokehouse...
Hi there and welcome!
I'm all about the rewire of a Masterbuilt smoker (MES) to work with a PID controller.
I think US amazon may have some circuit boards these days and my guess is this would work for yours, but not sure. It lists model MB20077118 which is 1 digit off from yours and I...
Thanks for the kind words and advice, @tbrtt1. I can see how this could get addictive. I’ve already been looking for old water heaters or air compressor tanks to build an offset smoker.
I had completely forgotten about using a cooking spray to season. In the Jan/Feb 1999 issue of Home Shop...
An organization I joined a little over a year ago - after moving to the small town where I now reside - does an Annual Teacher's Appreciation Dinner among other things in the community. At one of the meetings, someone addressed a decline in attendance over the recent years and as a solution...
Appreciate the info but learned year ago not to use any pine with builds.
This will be my second build.
Here is my first build, did a 24 hour smoke season before I added any sticks/summer. Use exterior osb and it served me well.
Hello Mehr, and welcome aboard!
That's gonna be a sweet build! I hope you'll post a build thread and let us follow along with your progress.
I don't have an opinion about the paint color - I've only used Rustoleum high-heat (1200*) black paint on my builds. Sounds like you already know that...
Howdy, new guy from Louisville KY here. Originally from Phoenix AZ, I am a Christian and a welder / fabricator. My company builds life support equipment for Navy submarines.
I had a cheap Pit Boss pellet grill / smoker that I burned up a month ago, so I started searching forums for inspiration...
Hey Red! Thanks for the warm welcome and getting back to me so quickly.
With respect to your Southern Q, have you noticed any paint issues around the firebox?
Also now that you own the Southern Q, is there anything you would change or do differently if you have to get a new smoker?
When I cut the half moon on bottom of CC for the FB what determines how far in the FB sits in the CC? Asking for 2 reason. # 1 I seen lots of builds and comments sayin to cut I past the weld seam on a propane tank. I am using a water tank off a concrete truck. The ends are not as rounded and...
Correct.
Most folks weld them in, but I don't see why they couldn't be bolted in as well - as long as the nuts and/or bolts don't interfere with the rack sliding in and out.
To give you a visual, here are a couple pics from one of Robert's (@tx smoker) cabinet builds. I hope he doesn't mind...
Been watching more videos on this PID, and reading more forum threads on it and how people set it up. One question: What kind of case do you put these PID components into to keep them somewhat protected from the weather when you use them on your smoker? Some use a case that comes with an overall...
@Cotosoti provided lots of info and details for the purpose of a PID controller and what it does.
To add on. In short, the stock MES controller will do a big peak/valley style of heating. Where you set the smoker to something like 250F smoker temp and the MES controller will give you an...
Thank you Joel! Means alot to us! And we look forward to alot more cooks on it as well!
Look forward to seeing some future builds of yours again !
I don't think Jim can reply... think he might be getting enabled to work some overtime for a new smoker he wants to buy! :emoji_laughing:
Ryan
That's the look that I am looking for, and I think I've almost got it this batch! They are on the final stretch. I think insulating my smoker might be helpful. One side is nice and wrinkly and he other is still smooth. So, I think prevailing wind cools one side of the box!
Thanks for your...
Hahaha, sweet builds. Yeah I started with big trailer builds and have slowly worked in reverse over the years to smaller builds. My first build was a 80 gallon tank deal, that I built like your meadow Creek style black smoker. Your copper smoker looks like it took a while to build.
How ya doin Mike ? I'm about 40 minutes west of St. Louis . St. Charles county .
Look through this and pick something that fits what you have . Good luck .
