The best smoke wood is free smoke wood!

This mango tree got uprooted after a strong typhoon hit a month ago. I cut a small piece to check if I could use the wood for smoking. It had a strong smell, that made my eyes water immediately. But, the guy I hired to cut the tree up wasn't affected at all. Weird.
Mangowood is very sappy when green, still carries the sap when dry, for that reason many avoid it. Also the Mango Tree is in the same botanical family as poison ivy, so many are easily irritated by its fruit and use of its wood.
Yes there's a lot of stuff here that's from Austrailia: mac-nuts and sharwil avos come to mind. The hard wood on the downstairs is spotted gum eucalyptus (I know I don't have that spelled correctly but I aint gonna look that up! and I also have a bunch of furniture made from the...
I live in Dhaka Bangladesh. I can hire a tinsmith to make a smoker but I need a simple design that a non-English reader could follow. Size and looks not important as it will be at my house man's place. We are having to use mangowood. Please send some plans. Many thanks. Owen
Thanks guys!
Yes, it was very, very, very good! Great? I think I prefer a good smoke wood for flavor (flavour for disco ).
Would I do it again with the nut shells? Heck yeah!
The only thing I noticed was it took longer than normal to get thru the white smoke phase. I might have had...
Apple is a good all-around wood to use. Plenty of it where I live.
I talked with a pitmaster in Puerto Vallarta. He can't get apple wood, but does very well with the local mangowood. Makes for some of the best bbq I've ever tasted.

And then...
We do mahi mahi on a regular basis. I usually smoke at 275 degrees with a light fruit wood. I use a ginger mango marinade overnight.....try to get the largest mahi mahi available.

I am planning a big smoke for a bunch of people coming for a 'tech' session for our Valkyrie Motorcycles. I did a smaller version of this last year when I first got my custom-made reverse smoker. Now I have people coming in from out of state and I want it to be exceptional. Here is my planned...
Hello goodtradepaul. As for your question: Here is my opinion for what it is worth. Others will have different advice. This is only my opinion. I did some checking and found that Ecuador does have mango trees. You may want to take a look at these ...
Well Happy Friday Great Cookies!!!!
This winter is getting ridiculous, and so I decided that an "island day" was indeed needed!
Hence I smoked some lobster and re-created some island-esque salads, via memory, that were similar to some great tastes from my past travels.
And who said one can't...
Jared,
First, Welcome to the Philippines, secondly, if i understand your approach is that you are looking to secure your sources of both smoking materials as well as a reliable source of meat, ideally you are wanting to have a farm where you supply your own? If you have that sort of income it...
Hello. I can imagine your worries if you have to rely on the local farmer cutting your pig. While looking on the net I did find this on our site. May be of some use. Good luck. Keep Smokin!
