The Mini-WSM is a great little smoker, and just the right size for most of the cooking I do these days, But I do want build an offset or a even a stumps clone For some bigger cooks.
I used my COS a ton when I had it, biggest problem was there was only two of us, eating the BBQ that came off it...
Welcome from Hawaii!
To start, and to not blow a hole in your wallet, another vote for a Weber Kettle. They're just so reliable, and have a nice and simple learning curve.
Another one would be a mini-WSM if you want an easy build project, though they ain't as cheap as they used to be...
Hi all! Long time lurker through the years, but decided to finally make a new home. Sad to see that some of the great men I used to see when I'd pop in are no longer here. Though I'm sure they're right there next to us whenever we smoke.
Dad taught me to grill on a Weber Kettle as a kid. Then I...
Yes, The Weber kettle is used the same way... But the kettle has so many options/accessories to go with it.. It truely is a very versatile grill ... I have a 22" a 14" (smokey Joe) and 2 MiniWSM,s... I also have THIS ..
As for side fire box smokers... It's not that they are hard to control...
Here is an article I wrote detailing my Mini-WSMbuild, and the charcoal baskets I made.

Hi LanceR. I am also looking to build a mini-WSM setup in 2023. While I don't know which pot is the right one, I can verify a pot that does not work that was said to be a great fit a few years ago. I ordered the Vasconia 32 quart steamer from walmart.com recently. The interior of the pot is just...
I am with this guys and vote for the MiniWSM (homemade one) ...
It's the most versatile, fuel conserving, set it and forget it (almost). grill/smoker out thehre IMO...
NO modifications have to be made to the weber so it still can be used as a grill... The smoker part ( 32 qt steamer pot)...
@JckDanls 07 ls, thanks for the info.
One option to explore is the charcoal grate from a Jumbo Joe 18" grill. It's a bit smaller than the grate on a Smokey Joe. I dropped the charcoal grate from my Jumbo Joe onto the Smokey Joe and it barely caught the flange on the rim of the Smokey Joe. The...
For what it’s worth, the miniWSM is an easy build! Get a tamale pot, cut the bottom out and you have a great little smoker! Ya wanna grill, remove the pot and you are all set! Just my 2 cents!
The MiniWSM is an awesome little smoker.. and it also can still be used a s a grill when needed ... I did the liberty to do a search for ya ... https://www.smokingmeatforums.com/search/644518/?q=mini+wsm+build&o=relevance
I've built two of them to take camping ...
Brinkmann went under so they're harder to find as they were never built to last and required quite a few mods to run them decent. I started on one and i took a 2 year break because it was such a pain.
If he can afford it i'd recommend the WSM 14.5". it's about the size of the brinkman but...
That's a nice build, and it looks like the lid is a good fit. The charcoal basket is just right, I bet there will be 7 or 8 hours of burn time. Your son will love this cooker.
Years ago I built a miniWSM with the tamale steamer pot conversion on a 14" Weber Smokey Joe and it's a cool baby...
I hadn't planned on a hanging rack because most things he will start out cooking will probably be small stuff that is short cooks to keep his interest. But deffinatly a possible addition down the road .And your right sometimes weld areas are very prone to rust. I'm planning on cleaning the welds...
What's up miniwsm clan,
I just picked a Smokey Joe Silver for $10 bucks on craigslist and I am so pumped to get to my build. There seems to be endless discussion on set up. So I'm curious to hear thoughts on what might best apply to my build.
After reading up, I believe that cutting out the...
I'm finally done with my minibuild. It was such a fun and inexpensive project and hopefully I'll get some good times and good BBQ out of it. I kept budget in mind the whole build, so I will try to keep my prices included and give total for the project.
I started off by finding a SJS on CL for...
First post. Let me know if I posted this in the wrong place. My neighbor smoked some ribs for me on his Weber Kettle. I caught the bug and build a MiniWSM to get me started. I just seasoned it today, or think I seasoned it. I lightly sprayed the inside surface with Pam and then ran it for an...
I just checked on my stats and I haven't been active here since 2013 - wow! Sorry for my negligence. I don't do a lot of smoking and usually use my UDS, however I did build a mini-WSM back in time, so I think I'll take it camping with us this summer. So, the question(s) are do you use smoke...
I've been contemplating a minibuild since it's normally just me and my elderly mother and by chance I was on Ebay looking for a pot and shazam!
NIB (open box) for $149.25 Buy it Now,looked to see where it was located and it's in Charlestown WV about a 50 minute all highway drive.Mind made up!I...
