It's actually much simpler than that.
You're rewiring your MES to bypass its controller and basically turn it in to an always-on heater. This effectively disables/isolates the OEM controller on your MES. I removed mine and tucked its cable down in to the hole it comes out of on my MES...
Yeah, from what I can tell, even the oem controller was meh.
So I ordered the WiFi Auber one. Happened to be on sale for Labor Day weekend also. Basically saved shipping cost. But I'll be able to control it much like I do my pellet grill as well.
I'm the meantime, putting it back together...
Page 15 of this thread gives me everything I need for the rewire. I am assuming the connector on the Auber will plug right into the MES connector on top?
Thank you!
Single pass on a 7mm plate. That is my AuberPID controller. Controls the smoker temp in staed of the cheap MES electronics.
Thank you!!
Appreciate the kind words, but we've seen the food you make so I'm sure you can do it.
Thanks!
I'm also on the bandwagon for buying an AuberPID. This one with the multipurpose sensor is the least expensive option that will definitely handle the electrical power pull of an MES40:

Do the simple rewire...
The Amazon PID showed up today and I'll return that tomorrow. The Auber should be here tomorrow also. In the meantime I can probably start on the rewire. I have an MES30, along with a Traeger and an Oklahoma Joe barrel smoker. Each has their pros and cons but I can't do without my MES for doing...
...for MES recently. I'm not sure you would find one for your model though, or how interchangable they may be.
The rewire and using an AuberPID controller is pretty much always an amazing option. You are also in luck that your rewire is even simpler than many because you have "clips" that...
Thank you for the quick reply Tallbm! I did indeed get one of the cheap PIDs. I'll return it and grab an Auber. I'll post again when that one shows up. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XNQ538P/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
Thank you again for the help!
Hello from RI.
What exactly is the issue with the Bradley that it met its demise? The reason I ask is that it could be brought back to life with the addition of a PID controller, the Auber contoller(s) is truly plug and play with the Bradley.
I read through this post on how to Rewire and MES for the AuberPID controller: https://www.smokingmeatforums.com/media/openedpannel-png.547735/
But it’s pictures do not match what I am finding with me MES… see attached images of what I’ve found. The one with the black post is the power cable...
I’m not sure if that was the bat signal but I did do some playing around with this controller tonight and have a general understanding of its basic operation ( set temp, switch between cooling and heated modes) and I’ve ran it on my bench to make sure I understand its operation. My original...
$160 auberPID and you'd have an excellent smoker with less than half price of a different unit. (And wouldn't need your numbers😉)

No . That setup mimics a smokehouse . No doubt it's a great setup , but it won't compare to a Pellet grill / smoker .
I have a 30 that's set up with an Auber controller and a mailbox . I only use it for sausage , hams and the like . Not saying it won't do the job for other stuff , but for me it...
Hi all,
Been a while since posting and wanted to share my latest smoker mod.
I use an MES30 analog with a slow smoker attachment and an AuberPID. I did several out-of-the-box modifications to the unit and posted the writeup a couple of years ago...
Hi there and welcome!
Let us know exactly what you bought (amazon links would be great).
if you but just a PID controller that looks like this, there is a lot more involved than just wiring it into the MES. You would have to buy more parts, components, etc. to build a fulling working PID...
...work as I have upgraded. It is insulated with kaowool and has always been a great oven, held 300 degrees for hours no problem. It has an auberPID controller with two 4000 watt oven elements (240v). I'll attach photos. I know it's overkill and crosses the line between oven and smoker but it's...
