...the mods except the insulation. I am planning to start with chips, not pellets as I like the taste/smell better, who knows, I may switch to the AMNPS pellet system, which I already have. I don't envision using it much at high temps as I have so many other smokers that can hit the high temps...
...so i rigged this thing up with a PVC Y and a variable speed fan in a venturi style setup. I think the inconsistency in the fire with the AMNPS and my mailbox setup contribute more problems than they are worth so I'm going to give this a try. If nothing else it will work very well when I'm...
...much of a slob as I thought I was, took the grill brush and putty knife to the inside earlier and scrubbed all the removable parts, racks water pan, drip tray on the bottom.
Now on to my next venture, breaking out my amnps tray Ive had sitting around for a cpl yrs and never used. Always...
10 minutes is the the amount of time the flame should burn per the instructions that come with the AMNPS... if I remember correctly.

I removed both from mine. Put a regular grate in it's place. Never used a water pan and did a mailbox mod to use with an amnps...never looked back.

I use a tube with a mail box , but always wanted a tray .
Last year John ( Bearcarver ) sent me one of his trays . I can't get that thing to stay lit to save my life , but I'll have to try again soon .
They sent four 18# bags their 4 pellet flavors for “free” so I cracked open the mesquite pellets. I tired the 0-400 method. They cooked quick. So lower and slower night give them more smoke flavor?
Thank you, thats what I thought as well. Trial and error I guess.. Ill try the tray and the tube and see how it goes.. Then Ill try I guess.....to open the lower drawer a tad.... Even using the factory chip box that has a lid on it gives pretty good smoke, it just doesnt last , I try to use a...
It is a LANDMANN Smoky Mountain Series 32901.. The chips are loaded by pulling out a drawer(top drawer of the 2) theres like a chip can thats rectangle with a lid with holes in lid it sits directly over the element.
Welcome from Iowa! Very good advice given already! I'll add to do a search for mailbox mod for your smoker and get an amnps tray to burn pellets...way easier than constantly having to add chips to your smoker.

I don't have any info/input on that generator but if you are having ashtray flavor while cold smoking then I would bet money that your issue is stale smoke which = smoke lingering way to long instead of new/good oxygenated smoke coming in and pushing older smoke out.
I ran into this issue when...
Before I added the mailbox mod, I tried putting the AMNPS in every available spot I could think of. I even tried removing the chip dumper all together. But nothing worked for me. I couldn't get it to burn for so much as half an hour.

Rolling smoke - I start off using the 1500w heating element w/ Auber PID and amnps with pellets. started off at 100° and slowing increased.

I was looking for the chips yesterday and found that Amazon carries their pellets. Seems like the chips are harder to find and I didn't see them on their website. May be that they're just doing pellets now.
