My MES30 stayed out all winter in upstate NY with the Masterbuilt cover only and I had no trouble with it. If I know it is going to rain and I'll be smoking, I put up a canopy. I will be looking into the cover that johnmeyer posted. The Masterbuilt one is cheaply made and I want something sturdier.

I put mine in the bottom left of the smoker. If I was at home I'd post a pic for you. But it leaves no mess. All the ashes stay in the tray.

I have the same smoker you have. Get yourself an A-maze-n Tray. You'll thank us. I can get 11 hours on a full tray without refilling it. And welcome to the forum! You'll get a lot of great and friendly advice here.
