Got the smoker seasoned, now its time for meat.
Threw on a 9 lb shoulder at 8:30 last night. checked it a few times in the night and by morning she was done.
I really liked the flavor of this Q It had good smoke while not being bitter.
I definitely prefer this Q over my...
My mini smoker is 14"x30" with a 20 lb propane cylinder for a firebox. The firebox/smoke chamber ratio is about 1/4. Check out my build thread for details.
Here is a closeup of my fire box.
The peice of expanded metal in the bottom is 9"x9". If you used the plimus tank that bottom...
Okay, had some time this weekend to start building this thing. Borrowed a welder from my friend and went at it.
My first time using a welder. Don't look too closely at the beads
Firing her for the first time.
I found a grill in someone's trash. I think my smoker will fit on it's...
Welded up my Mini-Smoker this weekend, and am ready to start figuring out her quirks when it come to fire.
For you mini-smoker operators out there, what kind of fuel do you use? Charcoal? Lump? Sticks? What works for you and what have you found that doesn't work?
Pretty sure its the ribs, the only other thing on our plate was watermelon Am thinking the high sugar content in the sweet baby rays might have something to do with it.
The last two times I've made ribs, I've recieved lots of comments on the ribs, and the stomach gas afterward. :(
I usually use Walmart, whole spare ribs, , Sweet Baby Rays sauce, and pear wood (my father in law trimmed his trees this spring)
I did this last batch on my UDS with...
Was playing with Google Sketchup tonight, and did some designing for my new smoker.
Was playing around with firebox ideas. This is something I like the looks of, but I'm not sure how I will get the ash out of.
I'm not sure I like the leg setup. I will probably come up with...
I've seen a few builds on here where guys put dampers on the exhaust stack. Is this necessary in a reverse flow?
I've always smoked on my ECB and UDS and the rule there was to never close the top damper or the smoke will get stale.
I think I recall reading somewhere about dampering the...
Thanks for the link Duck! I knew I had seen pictures of your build somewhere and I was looking high and low for them.
And thanks for the heads up on the clamshell door, Bikeman. I think I am going to do a firebox similar to ducks.
I am really looking forward to getting this build going...
I like the gas stick burner! How dows that work with hot embers from the sticks falling down on the burner? Was thinking about incorporating one of those into mine, and was wondering about the ash from the sticks clogging the burner.
How adequate is the firebox on yours? When I ran the calculator for mine, it showed a 5# propane tank is about 1/4 the volume of the cooking chamber. Is that acceptable for this size smoker? or should I be looking for something bigger for my build?
Also, what type of fuel do you run in yours?
Love your smoker!!! Getting ready to buid one of my own. One detail the I noticed was your reverse plate. Is that one piece spanning the whoe bottom of your smoke chamber, or is it two pieces spanning the corners?
if you hold your mouse over an abbreviation that is colored green, it will give you the definition.
What part of Maryland/Delawar are you from? I'm from Greenwood, De.
