Hey all. Hosting another New Years party this year.
we have always done pot luck style. Try to change it up every year.
This year wife decided everything that comes has to be in slower cooker/crock pot.
Well that leaves my smoker out which doeant seem fair to the slow cooker lol.
Any ideas?
I was thinkin smoke some drum sticks than toss them in the crock pot all sauced up like some sticky finger drum sticks?
Lets here some ideas? Something i can transfer to a slow cooking.

Rum injected ham ? You can either inject a ham or use a spiral cut ham and pour the mixture over it that's what I am doing. Some fresh Croissants then later in the week Scalloped potatoes and ham .

How about some chilli with pulled pork or brisket in it.
Just think of the slow cooker as a warming pan. As long as you have some liquids in the bottom you could put anything smoked in it. Your wife may not be happy but you win!

Your right PAbeef. Just found out tonight my buddy is using your idea (slower cooker is just a warmer). Turns out he is going to pack the slower cooker with some ribs lol.

I went with my plan of the chicken drum sticks.
As i type they are still in the smoker but will be out in 15min. Here was my smoking layout.

35 drum sticks
Apple wood chips
Coffee in the water tray

3degrees outside windy

1:15 started smoker and added chips. Ran it up to 300 and let it settle in.

1:30 added wood chips again and all chicken.

2:10 added wood chips. Put meat prob in. IT temp 140.

Found a little trick. Any time i open smoker crank burner. It heats the cast iron pan up really good and helps with smoke. Than when closing door turn down to where it needs to be to hold temp needed.

3:00 smoker temp has held @ 245 perfectly since 2:20. IT temp 160. Addes wood chips turnes burner way up got the chips pouring out Chicken drum sticks in the smoker... plus apple wood chips ....plus maple syrup brushed on them. Equals goodness. Sweet sweet goodness. smoke. Brushed chicken with maple syrup and rub your chicken sauce. Put IT temp prob back in a drum stick. Said 156. Gonna give them 15min at 280 to take on some heavy smoke and crisp a bit.

3:30 smoker temp 270. IT 160

3:30 took smoker temp to 300. 270 didnt seem to crisp them up at all. And would like to see IT of 165.

I tried one and man o man good. From here they will go in the crock pot just to stay warm and to follow the crock pot dish rule lol.

Happy new year to everyone and have a safe night
