So now that it's the summer season and cold smoking is out, I've thought about trying Gravlax.

But I've been wondering about being able to get smoke flavor into it.  I don't really want to use liquid smoke, so I was wondering....do you think it would work if I hot smoked some kosher or sea salt in my kamado and used that with the curing mixture?

Wasn't sure if this would work or not, but it sounds good in theory at least.

If it can be verified by anyone on here that it does in fact work, would using purely smoked salt be the way to go, or only using a portion of it for the salt portion of the salt/sugar mix?  Thanks
