Hello fellow posters. I'm new to the board as well as new to the world of smoking. a family friend gave me a Weber Smokey Mountain for my birthday this year so i opened my big mouth and suggested smoking the turkey.

anyway, my mom had gotten a 20 lb turkey but she said it's cut in half. i'm not sure if i smoke that any different than as a whole turkey? i will be brining it for sure. i welcome any advice as well as tips/tricks, etc. thanks for your time.

Hello Brandon

I see this is your first post, you should head over to Roll Call in introduce yourself.  Add your location to your profile, helps everyone if they know what part of the world you're in.

It's a good thing it's cut in half, a 20 lb bird is tough to get through the 40-140 degree in 4 hour rule.  I wouldn't smoke it any differently, really not any different than a spatchcocked bird.  Plenty of posts here on turkey smoking, just type turkey into the search bar at the top and you'll see tons of advice.

Make sure you post some pictures!  We all like to see what everyone is doing.  Welcome to the board!
