Hi All I'm looking to buy my 1st Pellet grill.. I need your thoughts on either of these 2 Pellet Grills, or any other ones I should look at? I would like to buy at Home Depot or Lowe's if possible for easy return if I have too.
1.RT590
2. Oklahoma Joe Rider DLX

Thanks Dan

Rec Tec 700 Bull all the way. I researched every pellet grill on the market for months and just slowly started X'in them off the list till I was down to the last one...the RT 700. It has been nothing short pf spectacular!! The versatility is second to none, it is rock solid stable in any conditions, and built extremely well. It just has "quality" written all over it. Add to that, the customer service is world class and you have an unbeatable combination. Make no mistake, I have a patio full of cookers and the Bull is by far the most commonly used one. Simple to operate and has all the WiFi capabilities that the high tech folks want but ease of operation for those of us that are technologically challenged. There was a reply above that stated it'd only go down to 180 as the lowest temp. Yes, but that's on the control setting only. The actual grate temp is actually about 10% lower than the set point due to positioning of the factory probe and the way it reads. Yes, there is a temp differential but there will be on all of the pellet grills. It is consistent though and super easy to account for. It'll easily go low enough to smoke sausage (done it several times) or high enough to get the most beautiful sear on a steak, especially if you get the sear grates. Go for it!! You won't be disappointed.

I’ve had traeger and GMG. Those 2 would have severe issues with keeping a consistent temp. I would have huge swings during long cooks. I have a Rec tec bull now and it’s amazing how consistent the temp remains even after a 16hr brisket cook. There build quality, warranty and there customer service is second to none. I just wish I would have bought the Rec tec before wasting money on the others.

rec tec!!I have a RT-700 and its just me and my wife. I use space all the time. but either will serve you well.

I'm in the same situation as Sandy...most of the time. Here's my take on it: you can cook a small amount of food on a large cooker but you cannot cook a large amount of food on a small one. Certainly the 590 will hold more than enough food for two people but what would happen if family or friends (or both) showed up? You'd possibly be cooking in stages :emoji_wink: I've done as few as two steaks on the 700 and as much as two full packer briskets. All came out great.

Hi So why is the 700 worth the extra $600.00?

Being that I've never owned or cooked on a 590, I cannot answer that question. Right off the bat is more space obviously. I'd highly recommend calling Rec Tec customer service and asking them. They will give you an honest and accurate answer. From there maybe that will provide enough info to make a good decision based on your requirements.

that is not a valid cost comparison or just bad math. Grills sold without extras are;
  • RT-700 - $1200
  • Rt-590 - $900
$300 difference not $600. I would assume its $300 more because its bigger. they use the same controllers and all that.

I don't have either one but did some looking yesterday because of all the recent posts about them. I saw the 590 at $899 and the 700 at $1199. So only $300 difference. Also 590 with 4 yr warranty and 700 with 6 yr warranty.

Brand answer is covered for sure and I agree based on everything I’ve read from owners. For the $300 difference the 2 years extra warranty and the extra cooking space are fair I’d say. You can never have to much space. I only have three in our home but run a pretty big smoker. The reasons run from cooking ahead to freeze food to food for kids, friends and neighbors. That said if you are sure you won’t want more space the 590 would be just fine.
