What type smoker do I buy, just starting out

I know this is a never ending question but I am just starting out and I cannot wait to sink my teeth into some good old smoked meat. I was just wondering if I can get a little feedback on what type to buy Gas, Elec. Char or wood.
I dont want to spend alot. but I want my stuff tasting good.Thanks all
