Electric for low temp smokes, if I propped the lid up on my pellet smoker it would run away on temps trying to keep the temps at set point, any opening of the lid makes mine kick the heat on, it runs really well to the set temps, not sure what's the lowest any will run but outside temp effects the inside temps by 10-20 depending on temps. All of them are different so it's hard to cobble something on 1 and it be the same on another. Have owned a MB 40" electric smoker since they first came out and has been a dandy except for adding fuel to keep the smoke rolling, a pellet tube ect can be used to help the reloading issue.

Hi!

I'm looking to buy a pellet grill and looking for some advice. I'm not hoping to spend more than about $1,000 but am waiting for sales. My family and I love smoked salmon, I grew up smoking salmon every once in a while, brining it and then cooking it slow with alder in a smokehouse. I'm hoping for a pellet grill that can hold a low temp, 160 max, and that I can add some real wood chunks to.

So far I am considering waiting for a CC woodwind pro 24 to be on sale, that smokebox sounds like it might be great. I do seem to see a lot of opinions that the rec teq is the go-to brand though. Is there a rec-teq model that I can get for not much over 1k on sale that might work? Is there a different brand or model I should be considering?

Any tips for where to look for sales if buying online?

Thanks for any tips or advice.
HI! I am new to smoking, got a Grilla Chimp , on a huge discount.
Just checked the Grilla Site, its still on sale !
They have a starter bundle @ $500 +, well worth it !
Its very well made and has alot of SS Stainless Steel parts !
I chose it for these reasons above other brands :
SS parts, including a double wall construction, no need for a blanket.
SS grates and a 2nd rack included.
PID : Its WIFI, Has a Smoke Mode, and a Pause mode when opening the lid, So it doesn,t go crazy on Temps ! Like the Smoke Mode: Its not heavy smoke , can add a smoke tube if you want to ?
The PID has some other Modes too :Argar Adjusts, RT,. Not sure what they are, have not used them yet !?
Size of the Chimp Model Grate space:
You can put 4 Pork chops on the lower grate and Potatoes on the higher grate.
BB Ribs 2 On the lower grate, but small, Top Grate a 3 rd.
I am very happy with my Chimp !
For a $500 + investment?
That ,s got high end ?
Only down side is it size?
I looked @ up grading it, twice the price, not that much more space ? Out back
It depends on what you want ?
Quality, Size, and $ Spendt !?
IMO: The Chimp starter bundle is a no brainer!
It has more bang for the buck !
