what is wrong with freezing cooked meat?  there is only 2 of us in our house.  If I didn't freeze it I would end up throwing away the majority of what I cooked.

I think it stems from a childhood memory of freezer-burn food/meat popped in the microwave, and then used to make dinner.

I think that's why I don't make my bed, either!

"You can't go to bed until you have finished your meat and made your bed! How can you go to bed if you haven't eaten your meat (and made your bed)!!!"

Ok, how many of you read that in an English accent and started in with "we don't need no education..."

I buy meat when it is on sale and freeze until ready to use. I buy meat in bulk, portion into meal size vac seal bags and freeze. I freeze leftovers as well, depending on what it is, but surely reheat leftovers for lunches and for use in other dishes. Can't afford to do it any other way. Sorry for the hijack, I know you were soliciting feedback from the folks who don't freeze, just had to add my .02

Not hijacked at all! You mention something very relevant - vac sealed bags... One of my next purchases. I know I'd be more ok with freezing if I could seal it well!

Too funny!  Yeah, I have some memories of freezer burned meat as well.  Nowadays I don't freeze much just because I don't have a lot of freezer space.  I do have a small sealer though so if I have to freeze something it works out good.  As for me with a lot of the leftover meat it just becomes good sammies.  I guess I am a pretty basic guy but I have also been known to use some of the meat in baked beans as well, even some chicken.

Hmmm...usually don't make my bed either.  Maybe there is something to this.  (all in all its just another steak in the fridge)

And it seems the first real freezer generation (like my parents, in there mid 60's; I'm 40, crap, 41 in another week or so!) froze EVERYTHING with the idea of "it'll last forever if its frozen (same issue with THEIR parents and canning!) -- NOT TRUE!! Everything has a shelf-life!!! In the freezer, in a can, in a fridge.

I do love me some Pink Floyd!!!

I get the childhood scars of food. We had to eat ground turkey for at least 3 meals a week. I know it is good for me and can taste good, but have some real issues with it today. We had a lot of what you described that has given you this feeling. If done properly freezing is a great tool, but if not done properly it is one of the nastiest things to try and eat. It is shamefull how much freezer burnt food I have to throw away at work due to people not taking proper care in preparing the food for freezing. We have even gone as far as buying them a Mac Daddy of a Vac Sealer system. A microwave can be a great tool to assist in the kitchen if used wisely. But if you misuse it and try to rush things, you can ruin a lot of good food.

I would suggest getting the vac sealer and taking baby steps towards the freezer and utilizing what it has to offer. As discribed by others it can help make life better by saving time and money........

I was thinking that before I ever got to where you said about the English accent
My grandfather was English (I mean, my maiden name is Downing, doesn't got more English than that!) but was raised in New Zealand prior to coming to the US - I hear his British/NZ accent (old world, I guess) in that part of the song--always a jovial guy, he referred to me as "little fella" (I think he was sad his only son had two girls, he called my older sister big fella) - I digress -- his accent was awesome-he used to tell me I was "bloody goofy" but it came out as "yar blud-dy guff-y, child, yar bludd-y guff-y!"
