Hey everyone I am new here. I have a homemade smoker and I am getting cool spots. Does anyone have any ideas of what kind of fans I could put in to circulate.
I was think about attaching a " semi-circle" pipe that inserts into the top and the other end into the bottom to use hot air and cold air densities and kinetic energy to allow for a draft but I do not think that would be enough.
Any ideas would be great. Thanks

When I do jerky I use a fan from a power supply for a PC. They are generally easy to find from old PCs, I then use a DC power source to power it up. These are easy to find as well, I used one from a old rechargable toy car. These are some times called power bricks, They usually masure 2 x 2 inches plug directly into a wall outlet.

On mine I found a alum sheet with 3/4 inch holes that slides onto one of my racks. I have this about 6 inches from the burner and put a square stainless water pan centerd over the burner. This meathod at least in my mind forces the heat through the the holes.

I have somewhere to be here in a bit. I will see if I can get some pics posted for you in the morning.

I used an old computer fan. I've since removed it as I didn't like the way it worked. Introduced too much cool air into the smoker. Now using fire brick and a diffuser plate.

I think that's your best approach.

If you did use some sort of fan, then you'd want to make sure the duct work passed over the coals to prevent introducing too much cold air into the smoker.
