i just recieved the weston slicer i ordered, very fast delivery. i was cking the unit out and was surprise how heavy it seems. i found an issue with mine though, it seemed like the thickness adj knob has a little to much play in it. moves from 0 to 4 posistion and doesnt change a thing. lookrd underneat and there is a threaded screw with a nut on it, the end of the screw rides in a slot in adj handleand the reason for all the play is the nut on screw isnt tight and it almost seems like maybe the hole that screw threads into is to big or threads wobbled out??? i left a vm and email to there cust service and waitng to hear back. just curious if anyone elses is like this. it is a unit though for the $.

I have noticed a few quirks in the system too, but I have not yet sat down and analyzed what's going on. Hmmm I got a min. now.

Ahhh... OK that post that rides in the cam slot of the thickness wheel has to be tight. It's probably threaded into the sliding carriage portion, and the nut is a jam nut to keep it from moving. If you can't tighten it, I would suspect damaged threads. Also, seems there should be a grease of some sort applied into the cam slot of the wheel and on the other load bearing parts.

My unit has a small issue with the riding or right side of the mechanism. I need to loosen the jam nut and lower the post closer to the travel bar it follows, as my plate wobbles slightly "up and down".

Upon further contemplation... I think I will fashion a poly "rider" for this, to go between the allen keyed post and the sliding guide bar. Just a shaved down chunk of plastic about an eighth thick and with a drilled dimple for the post to fit in. Metal to metal sliding there...bad.

A friend of mine recived the 10" slicer and said everything looks okay except he noticed there is a plastic plate screwed on underneath slicer and a spot where they must have made a square hole to get access to a screw under there, maybe for the circuit board mod?? I have the 12" slicer and have not noticed a plastic cover underneath at all. Am i missing something? Anybody else notice the same thing on their slicers? I too have a little play in my slicing adjustment knob.

seems that for the diameter of that screw it has to stick out quite a ways compare to how much metal it is actually threaded in depthwise. a little bit of leverage going on rite there. also not that big a deal but my blade and the side panel which should be parralall are not. if i was to slice really thin bottom would be over 1/16 thicker. maybe there is an adjustment for that. yes a little food grade lube in the cam and bottom slide shaft would be a good thing. when i slide the whole carrige assy as like i would be slicing it has considerable drag.

i have the 10" also and i dont see any square hole in mine, in the center area there are 4 holes with plastic ties running thru and then 2 set of 2 holes one with something with metal clips sticking out a bit and the other set exactly the same except nothing comig thru them. they look like original. i guess the ones with the zip ties could have been added maybe holding the larger circuit breaker in place??? i havent seen a 12 inch but can you see your motor and wiring from the bottom on yours mj? on the 10" i have the plastic cover runs the full length of the bottom. it is attached with screws around the perimeter of it. all the electrical is beneath the cover. tightened that jam nut on the thickness adj cam and it took out well over half the play. the rest is just resulting from tolerances in the cam. i dont know if it will hold up but if it doesnt i am going to drill hole out and rethread a larger size and take the new bolt i am going to use and chuck it in a drill and take it to the grinder basically turn the end down so it fits the cam slot. looks to me like too big a hole was drilled for that tap size at mfgr.
