Weber Kettle Pork Butt Question?

In keeping with my desire to work out all the possibilities on my Weber kettle, I want to try making a pork butt. I have the Weber charcoal baskets and a vortex at my disposal. I’m not planning on cooking anything alongside the butt on the kettle. For those of you who use your kettle for low and slow on a regular basis what setup would you recommend I try.? Thanks in advance.

Snake method for low and slow, or flip the Vortex upside down in the center of your grill and pour charcoal around it(leave about 4" of space between the ends). Lite about a nine coals and put them on top of one end. Let her get up to 250* and adjust your vents to settle in at 275*.

Either way is how I would go about it(depending on time). Others will have more ideas.

The baskets work but will need coals added along the way.Chris has you hooked up with the vortex (wide end up) and snake method.The snake around the vortex will last much longer than the 2 baskets.Add wood chunks to your liking on top of snake spaced evenly around it, the size of the chunks depends on how many/far apart from each other you want them.
Do you have the hinged grate? If so, it will be easier to add chunks whilst cooking if you desire to go that route instead of the aforementioned chunk placement.
 
Like they said. Snake method. I just did a 11lber on mine with snake method. Pretty easy to do. Just get a few coals hot and put them at the start of your snake with wood mixed in. Pretty easy to keep it between 225-260 with the vents. This was my last one. I ended up making the snake a little bit thinner.

I use a modified minion method. 100 or so unlit briquettes and 5 to 8 lit briquettes piled up on top of the unlit coals. This will burn at 250 degrees or higher or lower if you desire for 10 to 12 hrs without loading more coals. Done butts, ribs, combos of both on the kettle. Works every time! Look up some of my post includes pics and all.

Thanks for all of the feedback and suggestions. It seems that my kettle may just be more versatile than I ever imagined. I may be using it as a secondary smoker. My OKJ is probably going to get jealous. I think I’m going to plan on trying the pork butt the weekend after next. I’ll make it a pork Sunday treat. Of course I will share some Que View. The kettle is definitely good stuff. I hardly use my MES anymore haha. Unless I gonna do a build pork but let overnight. Or not gonna be at the house
