How do you like the Universal brand now that its been a while. They make a battery only smoke detector and HD has them.

This house was built with the USI brand in 2006 . Most of them outlasted the 10 year advertised life . The were hard wired 9V battery backup .

The new ones I have are hardwired , ingergrated battery with 10 year battery life . No chirps no replacing batteries .

By mistake I ordered battery only . Still on board battery , but I wanted hard wired .
Anyway , Amazon refused a return because " I got what I ordered " so I'm stuck with 200 bucks worth of alarms . Went ahead and ordered what I needed , and put the batery ones on the shelf in storage .

What model number are the ones at HD that you looked at ?

This one. There are two hard wired with battery back ups in the house: one in the master bedroom and one centered on lower level in the common area. I want one more in the upper living room. So if there is a fire I may not need to jump out a window

OK . The ones I have are an upgraded model . I like the USI brand , but I've never had the base model . I don't think you'll go wrong with those .

These are the ones I ordered wrong .

The battery ones I bought through Amazon , $180.00 for the 4 .
I ordered the ones I needed right from USI , for less than the battery only through Amazon . So if you want the upgarded ones and HD doesn't have them , order straight from USI .

They have the new tech sensing , and detect smoke or fire . I think ones an alert / warning , and the other is get the F out .

The USI ones seem a bit better than Kiddie and First Alert.

I just checked all of ours. The youngest one is 9 years old, one of the CO detectors is 19 yo.

I think its time to upgrade them all. two are hardwired with back up, the CO are just battery.
