Unique BBQ Sauce

Thursday evening I was putting together a list of things that I needed to pick up for Friday's smoked spare ribs. I love traditional BBQ sauces, but I was in the mood for something a little different. About the same time I saw a commercial for some vodka and they showed a Bloody Mary. That really got the taste buds tingling. I started thinking that it would be something a little different and definitely unique to have a Bloody Mary BBQ sauce.

So this is what I came up with.
  • 2 stalks of celery cleaned and chunked up.
  • 8-10 oz. favorite catsup
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • juice of 1/2 lime
  • 1/2 tsp. salt (adjust for your taste)
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper (adjust to taste)
  • dash of Tobasco Hot sauce
  • 1-2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
Put it all in a blender and blend till it is relatively smooth.

The celery will give it a slight grainy texture.

I did add just a little water to thin it down slightly. but it really wasn't necessary.

I think it turned out fantastic. I will definitely make it again.
 
Oops, Left one thing out. I also used a dash of horseradish in the sauce.

Guess it probably would be a Virgin Mary. Of course you could use a little vodka instead of the water to thin it and it really would be a Bloody Mary.

Just a side note. We used the sauce with pork ribs and it was great. But -  I think it would be even better used with beef.
 
Definitely would be good with the chicken wings or even pulled chicken. I had considered using the celery powder but it just didn't seem right when we had the real stuff for the mixture. If we had a juicer, I would really have gone that way with the celery. all really good ideas. I may try some variations for the next batch.
