Hey everyone. I had to say that I tried using a little 6" tube smoker yesterday for the first time. I believe it is the one by Charbroil if I am not mistaken. Anyways I bought some Cooling Pellets Perfect Mix, or whatever it is called, to test with on pre boiled eggs. Boiled them, cooled them over night in fridge and peeled them. Took yokes out to make to good stuff and cold smoked the egg halves. Admittedly it took a few minutes with a Benz to get the pellets started and it did not look like it was gonna smoke. Had flame on it for quite awhile and once I tool the flame off the pellet flames would remain for about 15 seconds and flame out. Finally got it going for about two minutes and it went out by itself again. Got frustrated and put it in the bottom of a bullet shaped electric smoker with the eggs on the middle grate and said whatever happens happens. I came back 3 hours later and the smoke was just chugging. A lot of of smoke. More than I expected. Eggs were a nice light brown color. Took them off and cooled them down after stuffing them. Let my super over finicky friends try them. They hate everything but they loved these.

I now see the advantages I can have using this tube smoker in my bullet shaped electric smoker. Chips are fine but they dont last very long. This 6" tube smoker was right at 3 hours and still had probably another hour to go. I can now cold smoke. I can a,so use the electric smoker for its heat and the tube smoker for a much longer smoke if I desire. A win/win in my world. Very excited now. I may even get a longer tube smoker. :)

Also try the maze, works even better imho. Trick is to really get it going before putting it in the smoker and closing it up. I try to establish about an inch of white hot min-pellet coals and another inch of smoldering ones before I put it in.

Good idea. This tube smoker is going to increase the smoky flavor in my meats and cheeses now. As mentioned chips are ok but they don't smoke that long. Tube smoker will change that

3 hrs seems like a loooong time for peeled eggs. I normally cold smoke whole peeled eggs for about 45 min.
When using the tube, you want the pellets to smolder, not burn. Let the pellets burn for a min or two, blow the flame out, and your good to go.
