made my first bone head mistake on my first smoke. i tried to smoke ribs on an electric smoker using pellets instead of chips or wood chunks. i couldn't figure why the pellets would not burn therefore not produce any smoke. is it true that you need a pellet smoker in order to use pellets? The pellets were a gift therefore i threw them in. my cook temp was 225 degrees and never got a bit of smoke.

You need an A-Maze-n tube or tray to burn pellets in anything other than a pellet grill. https://www.amazenproducts.com/
The pellets must be lit with a torch and not just placed in the tray or tube.

There is a ton of info on here about every technique imaginable. Use the search feature and read up on things pertaining to your particular smoker or meats you plan to cook.

Also, the thermometers included with most smokers are notorious for being off, sometimes wildly so. Buy yourself a dual probe remote thermometer like the Maverick or similar.

Good luck, and happy smoking
