Me and a buddy are wanting to build a smoker trailer, but the only propane tanks in the area are "propane worthy" which means they are priced accordingly as well.

I got a old oil tank that i can use for one but i wanted a smoker that was a little bigger so i was thinking of taking two oil tanks and butting them up to each other, laying down and making one big smoker.

Wondering if anyone has seen/ done this? How is the air flow in a oil tank smoker on its side? Just whatever information you guys got would be great!

I was thinking of building one with the tanks on the side like this:

But I'd just have two tanks welded into one

Go big or go home thing( lol)
What's the benefit of having the tanks vertical vs on its side and vis versa

Look at page 13 of this thread for some ideas on a 275 I built. Let me know if you have any questions. This one has a reverse flow plate inside.
