Today at work they were tossing out a 100 gallon air tank, so me being the scavenger I am, I'm taking it home! Now I need to start paying attention to the build threads to figure out what the heck to do with it! It's 62½" x 20" and 202#. Need to decide if I "need" one that big or cut it down and use part for the firebox. The later seems to make the most sense. As soon as I remember how the heck to post a picture, I will. Anyone do one those dimensions I can steal the plans for? Should be a fun learning experience. I have a MIG welder and a grinder, not sure on skill though☺.

Hey kawboy,

I built a smoker last year with somewhat similar dimensions (60" long, 27" dia.). I did it this big so we could fit a small hog on there if we wanted to. We also do about 1000lbs of venison sausage a year and like to do a case of ribs (18 racks) at a time so that size made sense to me. I basically used the bbq calculator over at feldoncentral.com to come up with my measurements and just customized it from there.

Also, a friend of mine told me that he has cut into air tanks in the past and they have had some rust in them so be on the lookout just in case!

Good luck on your build!!!

Thanks for the warning, not sure when I'll start playing with it. Tempted to leave it big, but not sure how much I'd use one that big.

I may have accidentally figure out how to post a picture of it, woo hoo!
