I could see this being an effecient smoker.....Charcoal in the block and a separate wood box off to the side, comming up the exahust pipes? I forgot where I got this pic from.

That one looks like a gasser.
I have seen one made to a smoker though.

Yea it is a gas. See the knobs in the head? You think it would be an effiecient smoker if you made your heat source inside the block, covered it with steel, so you have the raidient heat thing going and than a separate woodbox for the smoke?

why not use the offset for both smoke AND heat?

Because for some reason I feel I could control the heat better if it were underneath.
