I picked one up from Wally World last night just for giggles and I read the 1 paper that came with it and it was no help.

Its a "Remote Grill Temp Meter". My question is, I have a 7&1 Masterbuild Upright Smoker.

How in the heck can I stick this thing in my meat and close the lid with the lil base still hanging around? Or am I gonna have to find something to sit it on? Also can I even do the above? Like plugging into the meat and closing the lid on the wire?

Should I take it through the top of the smoker soo the wire doesn't get pinched?

I'm not to familiar with how your lid fits on the smoker. Mine is a bit loose so the cable doesn't get pinched. If your lid fits like a Weber kettle, then you might have to notch the lid or body. This is about the best shot I have of how mine run. Hope this helps you out.

Me? I do it like Mikey but I do like the way that Travcoman has it set up. There are other gromet setups available as well. I would reccomend some place other than the lid or door to reduce the wires moving every time you open the smoker.
I stick my thermometer to a nearby railing but depending if you have side shelves or add a "wing" of sheet metal to stick them to, placement is limited to your imagination. (or in my case limited to my budget because I got one of them big imaginations and small budgets
